Keep Mums How? While I Flower and Pick A Mum!

Hey all! I'm starting a new library :D I'm growing out 16 fem seeds (15 WSS, 1 C99) and need a soil solution for my seedlings while I flower clones of each in hydro. I say soil solution, as I'm totally useless with pots! I know from experience cannabis is very hardy, I've abused mums in the past, and they have somehow survived, and still produced great cuttings! Although, I've lost some amazing strains that I doubt I'll ever get back, such as clone only: White Cheese, Psychosis, and Psycho Berry, So it really is time to amend my ways! I'm finally ready to really learn about soil! What would be a huge help, is some rough guidance on re-potting times and some tips on when to water to keep them in peak condition! I've already made a rookie mistake, by potting in Miracle Gro potting soil, or at least that's what I read after I did it! Thanks in advance! :D

Miracle grow isn't that bad, I can think of worse........ Just don't flower plants indoors with it. If your using it for mothers, you prolly won't have to use much, if any fertilizer in your water. That is if the miracle grow dirt has time release food in it. which I'm pretty sure almost all of it does. I pot up when I see the roots coming out of the drainage holes in the dish that it's in. My rule of thumb is to let the plant's roots fill the container, and then pot up. When I can see roots coming from the bottom of the dish is usually my sign that it's established enough to transplant. I only water when the plant needs it, like when the dirt is dry or right after I take a bunch of clones. Too much water will slow plant growth. some strains love water and drink heavily and some don't. I have a red dragon from barney's that hates water. I actually killed my mother by overwatering it. Luckily I saw it dying and cloned the still alive tops, and I still have the same cut of red dragon going. Making sure oxygen can get to the roots is one of the most important things to keep track of, without air the roots will die, and the whole plant won't be far behind. Hope my rambling helps!!!

Thanks frankenstein2! I wouldn't even attempt to flower in soil, I'm a water baby!! :D Whats the Red Dragon like? I've never tried it, but just looked it up and it sounds tasty!! I'm actually trying to nurse a Lemon Skunk back to health, I rooted her in water from a dying mum, she didn't have the hormones, energy (or whatever!), to root properly and only went as far as to produce root bumps, she started dying in the water, so I potted her anyway and she took, but not without additional issues... I thought she needed repotting (Maybe she did maybe she didn't!), but the soil stayed to wet for to long, so I re-re-potted her. Not sure if I should of done that, but it was the best thing that I could think of!!

For future reference, one of the easiest ways to root cuttings is to cut tge stems at a 45° angle at a node, scrape outer stem tissue off and place into presoaked rapid rooter plugs which are made from composted tree bark and natural polymers and they contain a natural rooting hormone.

Place the cuts in the RR plugs into a seed tray and place a misted humidity dome on top.10 to 14 days later you will have rooted cuttings.

Hi Jnugg, Thanks for the input! I use Root Riot Cubes (I think they're very similar to rapid rooters). I've fine tuned a pretty decent cloning process, as long as my mum is healthy, I get 100% success rates with them. The longest it's taken for me to root clones is 8 days (Super Silver Haze). With the Blue Cheese that I had, I'd take more than I need, and discard any that hadn't rooted in 5 days. I should've mentioned that the LS was rooted in water because it was a long branch (I cut the healthiest arm before it was too late; she was very poorly, but thankfully pulled through!).
