Concerned that your landlord, LEO or other unexpected guests might be penetrating your space ... quietly, without letting you know? well here is a cool solution

http://tech.blorge.com/Structure: /2007/03/07/setting-up-your-own-live-video-feed/

I tried it the other day and it seems to be workin fine!

ps. to add extra level of security activate MOTION alarm! As soon as someone enters your place you get a alert (how dont ask me its top secrtet), so when alert comes you turn on PC / your phone, and see who is there :dance013:

Is this simply to use a webcam to achieve the task of a more expensive IP camera?

For a few hundred one can get a decent pan/tilt/zoom wireless IP camera. Plug it in, possibly open a few ports if your behind a router and then just connect to it using your web browser and your IP address.

Yes yes that is also possible!

Although i dont think it works like this: Camera -> Wi Fi -> Your computer for some reason, it works like this: camera -> Wi Fi -> your modem -> server -> PC/phone

And yea those are 2 - 3 times more expensive. And you need to subscribe to the server with a anual fee...

But its still amazing, used to you need to spend 5 figure sum on a decent security surveillance.. now all you need is few 100 bucks! And no matter where you are, day and night, sun or rain, just reach for your 3G/wap phone and press a button and you can see your room. :jump:

Check out this older thread of mine, everything else is not recommended...especially not streaming video requiring an Internet connection.

Need to know what's going on @ your place?

.

GSM based camera??

This idea came up in my mind as well.. but i did a search for "3G" webcam and found nothing!

You call it GSM cam? Hmmmm

BTW in that thread you say its for outdoor surveillance, i am more interested with IP cam / web cam live technology for indoor use

I don't call it GSM cam - it's the service it is based/functions on.

Whether one uses it indoor or outdoor doesn't matter as long as there is a ATT/T-Mobile cell signal available.

$20/month and no contract & neither a continuous signal such as with IP cams elevating someone else intercepting something that's not meant for them.

Think about it!

Emphasis on "IF there is a GSM signal available.."
GSM is less secure than CDMA as well. Food for thought.

But this one above is a bit gay.

You know why? It uses a "receiver" to download videos.... i need a cam which sends signal directly into Laptops WiFi card, then we are talking, still haven't found one, dont know if its possible

I use Yawcam and motion detection. It sends me a text message picture of any motion within about 5 seconds of detection. It's pretty neat. Not as good as video though.

I still don't get why you are all about seeing video instead of just pictures?
I mean it's not like you're gonna see your plants growing or something...
