Well where to begin...

I guess ill start with myself..names kb, Ive been growing for about a decade and recently decided to take a full run at it. I quit my job and got a easy part time job @ a local hydroshop just to have some sort of income and give myself the time i need to concentrate on my breeding and growing. My main purpose here is to gain knowledge from the larger scale monster growers here. Ive seen a few that have gone from nothing to monsters in a few runs from the help of the growers on this site and thats what i hope to accomplish. So any and all of the knowledable growers plz feel free to chime in with any info and I thank you ahead of time for taking the time from your busy day to help a fellow grower out.

Right now i have 2 indoor ops and a small scale outdoor op but well focus on the OD here. This year were running 9 plants in 200 gallon smart pots and it has been a mess to say the least. I modeled my grow off of some others on this site mainly humboldtlocal and tom hill tho i used HL's soil mix and this is where my problem starts.

My mix consisted of everything hl's called for with a few subs mainly the chicken manure was a locally sourced brand from a commercial chicken farm that was bagged crumbles. The second difference was the soil. Same deal locally sourced but my main problem. I should have took the time and went and checked it but it was a last minute switch due to time and money. The soil showed up full of rocks glass plastic and was most certainly not screened nor a 50/50 compost/peat mix as they had lead me to belive.

Being in a pinch a time crunch and short on cash i bit the bullet and added my own pro-mix and filled the pots so they could begin to "cook". Big mistake. The pots hold far too much water and i dont belive even now 2 months later have fully broke down. Needless to say my roots did not explode and the growth was slow. I know now the importance of the correct soil and learned this the hard way.

So the purpose of this thread preping now for next year! And also keeping track of my stunted plants. So just to get everyone up to speed on where the plants are now..i have 2 strains a hybrid of my own I call white grapes and sincitys sinmint cookies a pheno that is xlose to girlscout but yeilds slightly better. My white grapes is indy leaning with a good structure with very short internode length and stays nice and compact..also a beautiful purple color at the end without help from the cold. There is 9 plants outside total all in tan 200 gallon smartys. Our ground around the patch is either very good or clay so planting in the ground wasnt an option. The patch gets almost full sun all day except maybe 2 hours from lets say 9am-11am a few trees on the neighbors have blocked the sun and i have not asked to remove them yet for security reasons. All the plants are nice lush and healthy and after i held the rain off via hoop houses the root were able to take off and save the grow. I dont forsee pulling more than 1.5-2lbs per plant due to the size of them and the early finish of the white grapes. They may be starting to flower now tho im unsure of flowering time od since this is the first year it has ever been tested outdoors.

Okay since we are now up to speed, this is next yeats plan of attack

Pots 2-300 gallon smarty or home made planters shorter and wider on 12-14ft centers.
Sunshine#4 as the base soil (ill have the money needed)
Either tomhill or hl's mix again mixed this year and let set until next season
Plants started indoors as usual from mothers i have of my white grapes, guerilla glue#4, great white shark, blue dream, and various other i plan to collect
All out around late april in hoop houses with supplemental lighting to insure no ealry flowering problems
The rest of the grow to be decided as it grows pertaining to training feeding and water.
Irrigation set up as soon as ground can be broken.

Also id like to get a better understanding of organic amendments also so if anyone can refer good books threads or websites plz feel free to post links or info.

Since im new here i have to add some photos to my albums ill get photos up in the next post

Welcome post a journal is nice to start with, the more organics the better ...lol

tho I think you should start with seeds ....just for the vitality,

clones in the uk are seen as a noobie thing?

Im not in the uk haha....seeds and seeds of good genetics are hard to come by where I live. Im in the states and fortunate enough to live in a semi legal state. I say this bc of the restrictions we have here its better than some but not the best. Our weight restriction is obsurd and outdoor growing is still a slight grey area its "legal" but 1 plant puts me way over my weight limit no matter what i do. We're pushing for change and recreational use is coming in a few years.

As for using clones, its not a "noob" move in the slightest it insures uniformity and that i get the traits I want/need from the strains I choose to run. With plant restrictions I cannot afford to have a weak plant or undisireable traits and theres no way of telling what you'll get from seed even a heavy IBL still can produce multiple phenotypes with clones I can have identical plants in shape structure yeild potency ect ect. Clones in my area are also not considered a plant until it roots so i can take 3x as many as i need and only use the fastest rooting and strongest clones. As of now im allowed to have 48 plants at any one time Ill keep a few mothers and only run about half the amount of plants im allowed this keeps me well under the radar and allows me to concentrate on quality which at kbo farms is #1.

Clones for me atleast are also a way for me to let my genetics out without giving away my control of my hybrids. I can give a selected f1 that has all my desired traits go out without fear of someone putting it to seed form (easily) and making a buck off my hard work. My white grapes which is a staple of my breeding program and a gem in mine and few close friends gardens hasnt been released to the general public because its not finished but I can still hand a few clones out of what I want as the strain for those lucky few to enjoy.

Good luck. I'm trying my hand for my very first time with a single plant from seed this year, and two clones from the mother taken pretty late in the veg season - all organic though. Definitely interested to see how your organic run goes.
