Kali China standard version - next breeding steps?

reading about the kali china breeding project has been fun.

for what i have gathered, the line is available in feminized only until a standard line can be created with the same quality.

it seems as though this remains a goal for you, what are the possible next steps to create a regular seed in this project?

are you still sorting through the original f1/f2 standard lines for males? (a slow process for sure!...also consider it has been stabilized only in fem for a few generations, the original will add unwanted variation)

are you considering outcrossing? and or back crossing to your new parental plants to create a parallel line of some sort?

this is an interesting situation in a breeding project, Dubi, what direction do you think you will take it?

Welcome OnceUpon,

I'm glad you found interesting the Kali China breeding info :)

Yes, i still have standard Kali China seeds from the first generations. I tried to continue with the standard breeding of the line in 2012 but i was unsuccesful, the males i used brought undesirable traits, hermie tendencies and overall the line was going in a direction that i didn't like.

On the other hand i was quite successful with the fem breeding of the strain so i basically i followed these fem lines for the F3-F5 steps of the breeding, when a hybrid starts to get stabilized and gets its own character.

Regarding what direction to take next in the standard breeding of the strain.... i guess try it again, harder, with new males from newer selections until achieve the results i'm looking for, but unless this happens i won't release a Kali China standard version, only if the quality and character are like in the fem version.

testing males can be such a guessing game
good luck next time around, hope you stick with it.

have you played with reversing males to show female traits?
