What's new

Just switched to coco for first grow.

I wanted to do a bit of ghetto hydro grow so I started some seeds off in paper towel, once cracked I put them in perlite in small yogurt containers. Once they got to be what I thought to be too big, I transfered them into diatomite and started a tedious ghetto flood and drain where I would dip each basket into nutrient 3 x a day. I was hating the procedure, they were hating the procedure so I decided to go with a the canna peat and coco, replanted and they have been really happy.

Oh and all this under the sun.

I wouldn't even think about repeating those steps, that being said, it's been a good learning experience, so many variables that you can read about but never get a real feel for until you have something growing.

Anyways, long story short, I'm at a loss as to how often to give them nutrient? or water for that matter. Yesterday I did up a new batch of nutrient, ph balanced to between about 5.8 and 6.5 ish (using ph drops to test), mixed in the proper amount of solution etc, but when applied, the plants HATED it, started to wilt so I flushed them as soon as I could and they seem happy now.

If anyone has any tips they would be greatly appreciated.

thanks in advance :)

yyou have coco? are you hand watering? supposed to feed every watering and water every day or every other, never let the coco dry out

start at 500 ppm for young plant and work way up slow

500ppm's
thats strain dependent cause my wonder diesel in veg like 500 @ the max and 900 in flower or they burn this is the formula i go by

seedlings 50-150 ppm
unrooted clones 100-350 ppm
small plants 400-800 ppm
large plants 900-1800 ppm

when there young let the coco dry out but not entirely i water the seedlings every 3-4 days but thats also dependent on ur room conditions

and as far as feeding, yea u can fed every watering but its not a must, in future grows im gonna c how feeding every other watering goes

I have no idea what happened but they have been very happy since, I've just switched to bloom nutrients and am watering every day. Felt like so much more nutrient was getting used when dumping into coco, but since I didn't have any ppm meter when I was doing manual flood and drain in diatomite, it was probably using the same amount of nutrients along the way.

As for strain, I got the most noobFriendly ones and am following the DNF suggested mix and aside from that one horrifying wilting day, it's been going well :)

Next grow I'll get all the proper stuff, proper ph meter, proper ppm meter (or combo) and watch it closer. I'm ashamed to say it, but I've murdered 24 seedlings to get to this point, but I think I'm on a bit of a roll now :).

Thanks for the input, it cleared things up for me :)
