July 1-2018 could be ‘extinction event’ for some California cannabis businesses

Starting July 1, licensed operators in California’s marijuana market must be in compliance with the state’s readopted and updated emergency regulations.

Retailers will no longer be able to sell product that hasn’t passed testing lab standards mandated by regulators.

They were given six months to exhaust their supplies of cannabis products made before the new requirements, and the deadline is now looming.

“You can smell it. There’s a certain desperation from stores that bought too much and they have to dump it,” said John Atari, CEO of Source Cannabis Farms, a licensed cultivator in Los Angeles. “There’s going to be a big shortage of clean product come July 1.”


Any marijuana harvested this year or for sale July 1 must meet quality and safety standards or be destroyed.
