Most people know know him as John Mellencamp now. His stage name has evolved. I first saw him play was about 1974 at an Uncle Sam's nightclub in Syracuse, NY. We had heard him on the radio and drove there just to see him play. Some people you just know are real artists and destined for greatness the first time you see their work or hear them play.

John Lennon was one of those too. Debateably the one of the all-time greats. John's birthday was Dec 16. '41 I think maybe. Google time!

Lennon's birthday is Oct 9. 1940. He was shot Dec. 8, 1980. I really screwed the pooch there. I had a buddy die driving a car into at tree when he was about 21 years old, way back in '78 I think it was. Maybe that was Dec 16.? This time of year anyway. Just tragic.

But I don't think Johnny Cougar had on a lot of make-up on that night, any that was outrageous that I noticed anyway. No lotta mascara or anything like that. I do remember he didn't come onstage till almost mid-night and we were all pretty trashed by then. I remember the night-club was jam packed too. I don't remember that Doll's thing though. The advertizing was just his name and picture I think. In that picture he did wear a lot make-up I remember noticing.

Love me some Mellencamp!! Been to see him at least 5 times I can think of off top of my head. Each show the dude has blown me away. Last show I saw Speck, his son play guitar with him and the band...THAT'S a trip!! I remember reading the liner notes of Scarecrow..on tape, and it being dedicated to his Granpa Speck Mellencamp,anyway..John is THE SHIT! Period.

I remember thinking along those lines when I saw Neil Young in Concert in I believe Tuscaloosa Ala. in '73.
But by the mid nineties he had sold out. While doing a radio interview for an album in '95 he bragged how he wrote the songs for the album & it took him an entire afternoon.
Yeah, well it sounded like it Neil.:peacock:
