Job in Vancouver area, wondering about places to live

Hi all, I trust my fellow smokers and growers more then I do the general public so I come asking for some advice!

From the states :tiphat:, have had a job offer presented to me in the Vancouver area. I live in the state of Washington atm and was curious if anyone could recommend area's that are decent for a young professional family of 4 with 1 preteen and 1 younger child.

We are looking for something in an area where rent for a 3bdrm house/dwelling will run us around 1200cnd a month at most. I am a techy in the entertainment industry so I don't mind driving to work. I love country living, but I need my high speed internet so some place rural but techy would be great. :groupwave:

Thanks all, obviously since I post on this site I am Cannabis friendly and am involved in the local politics of legalization also so if there is more Cannabis friendly areas those would be beneficial as well, no one else in the family smokes but they all are kosher and have the same views as most of us smokers. I am not looking for a place to grow. :smoker:

:thank you:

3bdrm for 1200 goodluck.. 1000 for a 1 bedroom is pretty common .. cost of living is outrageous on the island and even worse in vancouver.
If you go rural it will be less...

yea thats what I figured.

If you would pick a couple rural towns in the area, what would you choose? Once my Advanced Drivers License is done I am driving up to check out the areas anyway, just figured I would ask around here for any input.

prices in the lower mainland are very high, but if u dont mind driving in brutal traffic u can look 2 the outer reaches of the fraser valley; Chilliwack, Abbottsford, Mission, etc

if you can handle the drive or work in north van up the sea to sky is cheaper and pretty grower friendly

thanks all for the input, ill check out the northern area. I drove 2 hours to work in LA one way so I am ok with traffic as long as brutal isn't over a couple of hours.

Squamish and Brackendale, are close to West Van. Some people live on the sunshine coast ( Gibsons, Sechelt ) and catch the ferry to west van and back everyday...

Do you mean horse shoe bay because thats in north van bigbag?

No ferries to west van that would be nice though.

Squamish is about 1 hour and change from north van and longer with bad traffic or if the bridge is backed up. I say avoid squampton if your going to make a commute move to the sunshine coast or a nicer town on the sea to sky.. nice little towns in between van and squamish.

I think you will like vancouver, lot's of good places to eat and you can take the bus up to seymour to snowboard 20 minutes away from downtown .. lot's of other things to do.. go watch the canucks lose etc..

At least you are coming to an extremely friendly smoking city, we have 5 dispensaries or more now in vancity

if you pick vancouver to live in, then down town your paying about $1300 for a bachelor pad, but this is to be right in the city, you can find em a little cheaper but it's not easy

The sky train is every where so you don't need to be right in the heart of the city,

Burnaby near Metro Town mall would be cheaper and easy to access the train, probally $800 for a 1 bedroom if you look around

There are always good deals if you look around

Welcome to Vancity, there are vapourizer lounges, seed shops, dispensaries and decent police

lots of progressive friends of mind all went east.... port/ coquitlam. they claim they aren't downwind from all the mills/rubbish around vancity.
i really don't like most of the surrounding burbs but they do have their benefits (cheaper than the city! bout it) lots of generic condos/duplexes/apts surrounded by concrete and chain stores. they are also not immune (though they thought they were) to the drug/gang problems of lower mainland. abbotsford and surrey are places i only go to if i have to visit fam. you say you don't mind driving, but i'd also check out the 'west coast express' train.. its a great commuter train if you're trying to live out da city. plus the earth will love you more

yea I don't mind commuter trains at all either, I just should have said a 2 hour "commute" not drive. =)

Thanks again all this information is invaluable to me and helping me find a nice cozy friendly spot for my family.

squamish is cheap but it's getting pretty ghetto, two of my friends there got robbed in unrelated B&E's and they are pretty low key guys. I am sure it's subjective like anywhere else though...
