Jar Moisture

There's something about the climate here (PacNW) that makes some of my weed just back to being wet even in the jar,

I've tried leaving it out overnight in a well ventilated area and nothin'. Any organic dessicants or suggestions?

I lived by a river for a while and had a similar problem. I found that a loosely rolled ball of newspaper goes some way to attracting the moisture but you cant keep opening the jar or it overwhelms the paper. Alternatives are the dessicant bags you get with electrical goods but i've always worried about some kind of powder leakage so i avoid them. Another alternative was to use superabsorbant kitchen roll but this seemed a bit hit and miss. Newspaper and packing in a warm climate seemed to work best. Cold air attracts more moisture so avoid canning in the cold. Maybe a dry central heated or airconditioned room would work. In an extreme case maybe you could put the bud and jar in a box and pipe a dehumidifier into the box but this might make it all a bit hard work.

damn that's nice. where i live i can't leave a bud out for more than an hour without it getting bone dry and crumbling into a powder when you try to pick it up. you must have lots of humidity. that would be nice to live in a place where i didn't always have to worry about my bud getting all dried out. super dry bud like that is super harsh

I found a product called "Private Preserve". It's a can of CO2, nitrogen, etc. that is meant for preserving opened wine. You spray it into the bottle and it displaces the air. I've used it in jars of bud stored in the fridge & it keeps it real fresh......seems to neither dry out nor absorb any moisture since you've removed the air & its humidity.

i just ordered a bunch of bulk silica gel blend 90% reg and 10 % indicating... 5 bucks for 1 pound... 1 p of silica can extract 1/3 its weight in water and can be recharged. its also inert

you have to let it get DRY before you jar it up for cure
cause if you have moisture and you seal it up.... just going to get even more wet

make sure to pop the lid everyday for a bit of time

Are you sure the indicating kind is inert?
I know with Drierite-a dessicant used in labs for decades- the indicator was Cadmium!

But I guess if these are sold for food-type applications they are probably safer.

why not try the silica gel method papulz is doing cept keep open bottles in an enclosed box. that way the weed can be protected from the silica. if i had humidity problems, i'd try that.

Thanks guys.

The weed is dry when I get it, unfortunately my apartment is right in a coastal micro-climate so its WET as balls. Even jarred up, in a cool/dark spot, it turns to mush in less than a day.

I'll try a couple of the suggestions and see if they work.

I also have the same problem, but luckily only in the summer. I don't have a great solution, but what I do is throw the buds (after drying as best the air will allow) in a dehydrator for about 30-45 mins. Then jar. Every day when I burp the jars, if it has rehydrated too much from the humidity, I toss them back in the dehydrator for 30 mins or so. After about 4 or 5 days of this, I can just leave the jar sit.

I don't quite get the same taste as I do when I jar up the fall/winter harvests, but the loss is slight, and far better than letting them mold in the hig humidity.

oh man.. refrigerator.. i forgot that one.. my friend puts his in the fridge just to keep it fresh but when i get it to grind it, DRY AS HELL.

doesn't the fridge act like a dehumidifier?

I believe the crisper has the lowest humidity in a refrigerator.

Kind of an oxymoron then. Cause wilted lettuce is not crisp, but moisture helps it stay crisp. Except at the extremes I guess-totally dried out lettuce could be called "crisp", and too much humidity would make it slimey, which is NOT crisp.

OK-you can go back to talking about marijuana now...

not yet lol...

if it's wilted it's spoiled.. that spoiling is what causes that sliminess, otherwise, it'd stay crisp for ever. humidity wouldn't make it slimey, just wet except in the case where it spoils. i think the humidity helps it spoil faster which is why the fridge sort of dehumidifies crap to help keep it fresh.

ok back to MJ lol

wait, not yet..

how in the hell does a fridge work anyway.. someone look that up for me lol. i gotta go. lol

No way-I'm not dropping this yet!
I have to disagree-if I leave lettuce out on the counter, it starts to dry out, which is wilting. It is "spoiled" in that it wont be very good for making a salad. But in a high humidity environment with little fresh air, like in a plastic bag in the fridge, it will also "spoil" but in a more bacterial sense, but still just as spoiled in the usability sense.

So you see my point I'm sure, which was....uhh...
NOW we can get back to the MJ discussion.
