>>Jar Curing<<

So i was unsure of where else to put this thread but, i wanted to glean some curing expertise off this awesome crowd. ive got buds that i think are at the proper moisture level cracking apart and not quite powdering when broken still smelly etc etc..

but i was curious when you can stop burping the jars. i burped them every day once or twice for the first maybe 3 weeks then went to a routine like twice a week until things were crispy.. now its been 4 months and ive only been burping them once every other week perhaps, or less sometimes i think they might be done but i dont want to ruin a couple delicious lb

can i leave them undisturbed now for years then? or whats the burb routine for long term storage?

I dunno, would be nice to know, but do you plan to stash them in the cansd till you smoke it all up? I do that so by the time its all gone (a long while) those nuggets are soo nice and soo tasty and have quite a bit of bag appeal (not that that really matters)

I leave jars sealed up for months but I've always cracked a jar in less than 4 or so months to sample the nugs. I think they should be ok for a year if in a cool dark place but there is nothing saying that after a year your buds will not get you high. Ive stored bags of weed room temp. in plastic bags for 3 years and I still got floored, I still have some thats a 1.5 years and some over 3 years in plastic bags, not much though. Why would they go bad anyway if there is no moisture, its airtight. One year isn't that long.

hey Papulz

Harvesting and processing is a good place to start. You can stop burping your jars when you want... if it feels good. I have some that I stopped burping after about 2 months... other than opening them to get at the goodness inside..... now its coming up to 6 months... thought it was longer

I have just a half oz of each strain left and it is still very nice.. now its my special stash for occasions and such

my experience ... and I dont know if anyone can confirm, is that the bud seems to give off a gassy kind of smell for a while and you can notice it when you open your jars. I pretty much stop burping when that smell is no longer present when you open the jars and all you are left with is the buds natural aroma

I've got some NYCD buds that I harvested in 2003, they've been in metal jars ever since and they're still good. In terms of potency, they've lost some punch and are a bit dry, but in terms of flavour and aroma I'd say they're even better now.

The biggest enemy to potency (apart from extreme heat) is air, which degrades the THC molecule faster than light. Therefore it is not in your interest to continue airing your buds after the right moisture level has been obtained in the jars if your crop will lie around for awhile. The curing process will take place over a longer period of time, once every now and then when you sample your buds is okay. While in contact with air (non-vaccum) and stored in room temperature, The Tetrahydrocannabinol molecule will degrade (ie chemically transform from THC into cannabinol) at a rate of 3%-5% per month. Therefore, depending on X factors, after approximately five years of storage under these circumstances, all the THC will be degraded. It doesn't mean that the buds have lost all psychoactive properties though.
Freezing does seem to stabilize the THC molecule and therefore helps in preserving it. Although, extreme cold does a better job at preserving the organic matter of the bud rather than preserving the THC. More important than keeping your crops very cold is to keep it out of high temperatures, since the THC molecule starts to degrade at 32º celcius (89.6 F). The best thing you can do to preserve the potency of your buds is vaccum sealing. The approximately 50 euro/dollars that you pay for a cheap vaccum sealer is a good investment if you produce sizeable amounts of bud.

I was wondering the same things as to how long you should burp for, but also deos anyone here store the buds in the freezer. Ive been doing this for about a month now and they seem to be doing well just a little extra crispy.

I don't like the freezer as triches will freeze and become brittle-easily breaking off.

I use the jars. I burp for about two weeks and then they get opened anyway at least once every two weeks to get some bud.

I have some mj (oldest) that's been in jars a little over two years, the rest less.

I'm smoking out of two year jars every week, there is a tiny bit lost at two years in some girls, but it is a strain / storage thing. Stop opening, no light - evey thing, be alright.

yeah i had always heard about 2 years with proper airtight no light storage (temp wasn't ever addressed with me) though i do understand slowing down with a lower temp anyway jason king and the cannabible seems to infer at least i think i picked it up there that buds are good for 2 years with jars in a dark place. seems like strains are rather important to this process as well because i know that TW keeps rather well vs snowcap or jedi.

Thanks to the community for all the responses as always

Im with treble.

I stop burping when the smell is where I like it. When the shitty smell goes away and the good bud smell takes over.

Thats just me.
