Issue with seedlings, any thoughts?

Hey all,

I have a couple seedlings (2 weeks old) that are looking a bit rough. Not all of the seedlings look bad though, so I'm trying to pinpoint the issue. I'm thinking it could be stress from being under a 600w MH.

Age: 2 weeks from seed
Medium: FF Light Warrior
Nutrients: 1/4 tsp epsom salt last watering
Water: 6.2 PH, Tap
Lighting: 600w MH @ 12-16" (18/6)
Temps: 76 F Day, 62 F Night

I was worried it could be the start of MG deficiency, so I added a 1/4 TSP of epsom into the water last watering. The only other option I could think of was light stress since these are seedlings under a 600w MH; I raised the light up a bit further just in case.

Cheers all,

Thanks

That is way too much light and too close. What is temp right at top of seedlings??? That is enough light for 100 seedlings at 3 feet away.

Is it a cooltube connected to fan??

Yeah, it's a cooltube. I'll take a better reading in the morning. I've raised up the light in the meantime.

If temp at tops is not above 80F you should be OK, but still may be intense for seedling. It just seems very wasteful, electric wise. You could use T5 HO's, like 2 X 2 foot, for a couple of weeks.

Hey guys...

Sorry to necro this old thread. I wanted to follow up on how I resolved the issue.

I ran into a number of issues which resulted in what I believe to be nutrient lockout. I think this was because of a PH issue, over-watering, and I'm sure the 600w intensity contributed to their poor health as well.

I transplanted into larger containers, dialed my ballast down to 300w, make sure my PH was on point, and gave it a healthy dose of cal-mag every other watering. The plants are still looking a bit rough, but they've packed on a bunch of size and they're looking worlds better than they were.

I'm an OMMP grower here in Oregon. Got the girls outside for some hours of proper sunlight. We were lucky enough to get some sun this week so I've been gradually exposing them to more and more. We have cold temps coming back in tomorrow so I'll be planting outdoors a bit later than normal (end of May, maybe even early June). This lockout got me behind schedule for sure.

Cheers for the help everyone!

yes i would have guessed light too close. if room is 76 during day tops of leaves probably a little hotter than that, and 62 at night seems like a fairly big swing. glad to see they're doing well!
