Island in Thailand / Cambodia?

So I've got a flight booked to Bangkok for a holiday coming up...

Perhaps I'm crazy, but I have a fantasy...

A quiet, serene island. With some nice cannabis sativa.

A place where I can have an undisturbed wake and bake session. Then walk down to the beach, put on my fins and mask, and snorkel a beautiful coral reef, full of sea life.

I have no problem with cheap, basic accommodation or long journeys. Just looking for a place where I can smoke, snorkel, and relax. Being able to toke on the beach would be great too...

Koh Samet Thailand (check google maps)

You can stay at other cheaper resorts or bungalow rentals on the island and then walk up to Mooban's private beach if you like.
Their restaurant is the best on the island.

I definitely was low key but had no issue smoking while walking up and down the beach, swinging in a hammock by the beach or while swimming in the pool.

If you stay at the resort I did they will send a driver to pick you up at the Bangkok airport. Buy a couple of beers before leaving the airport for the drive (~2hrs) south to a fishing village then a short boat ride to the island. good snorkeling, cool bat caves, great hikes & amazing people on that island.

Many other areas in Laos, Cambodia and Thailand worth visiting too so maybe others will chime in with their experiences as well.

Try Koh Chang, which is close to Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand.....but it is still Thailand...

....it's a great place to hang-out....and if you are careful you should find it easy to score some 'erb.....just asked stoned looking foreigners....(other travellers)

I lived in Thailand for many years. Great country. I would try Koh Phangan. I avoid the island during the full moon parties but some like that scene. The rest of the time its a very laid back serene place that might just fit the bill perfectly. You should not have too much of a problem finding something to smoke either. I was picking up half kilos for $230. Wish I could go back with some bubble bags!

Good luck and have fun.
Cheers,
Bobby

Cheers to all for the information. Right now I'm leaning towards Koh Chang, per Gypsy Nirvana's recommendation. Any suggestions on which beach to stay at?

BPJR's got it right on...This is the backpacking island where you can find anything that exists in paradise. There are endless coves where you can get the party scene, or go further down the coast and it gets smaller and quiter. I deffinitely spent a over a month on a single beach puffing dubbies, mushroom shakes, killer food, people, bungalow right on the beach. Also camped with some friends and we shared the beach with one family who harvests coconuts. A++

The islands up north are for people with more money, less time. Never been as when I was there nobody had anything good to say about them. things change though.

if you're into scuba and snorkeling seriously, the island of Kho Tao has the clearest water I've ever been in. It was like a clear day underwater, the water wasn't visible. It's cheap of course and there's Whale sharks on the wide over there.

enjoy and plan on staying for the rest of your life...its that good and you'll wish you would've.

Going soon... The plan is to spend the weekend in Ko Samet with a Thai friend, then probably head east for Ko Chang and Cambodia... hopefully I can find some decent sativa...

When you are on Samet look up about a half hour before sunset and see all the bats come out of the caves and fly together across the island for food.

Yep, try kOH cHANG ! Go to the southern part, there's actually a nice bar with bongs on the table and notsonice brickweed... For cheap living, go to the Hippy-huts, a place called hippyhuts...

Found out my friend is taking a day off work, so convinced her to go with me to Koh Chang instead... It seems like lonely beach is the place to be for cheap accommodation and green...?

Koh Chang looked like a beautiful island when coming in on the ferry. And indeed it is. Stayed just south of lonely beach... Lonely beach isn't so lonely, with some luxury resorts, beach bars, etc etc. I'm sure there was herb around, but the girl I was with is pretty anti so I didn't even try. And it was raining the whole time. I thought april is supposed to be the dry season?

Only stayed there 1 night, then onto Koh Kong, Cambodia. Got absolutely soaked on the moto ride from the border to town... Luckily I was able to pick up some herb off my driver. Total rip off at 600 baht, but i didn't mind paying for convenience. Stayed at the apex hotel which was $10/night for a nice room. Anyways smoked some with him (its the bag on the right in the 1st pic) and got completely blasted. Again, not the greatest herb, spent a lot of time picking off the leaves, but it gets the job done. Completely high, went to the hotel restaurant for dinner. I was kinda surprised as I saw 2 huge rats running across the restaurant... and to be honest the herb had me kind of paranoid, kept my feet up the whole time.

Next day was onto Sihanoukville. Ended up staying at the GST hotel, $5 / night for a decent room near Occhuteal beach. Some pretty dope restaurants all around. Beach isn't great. As I was walking back from the beach, just past K2 restaurant some moto drivers asked me if I wanted something... yeah, ganja. How much you want to pay? $10 . Ok. Took me into the back of a nearby shop, which seemed to be someone's home. Out came this one legged dude with a plastic grocery bag full of long branches of bud... I should have taken a photo. Anyways, it was seedy (saved plenty) but smelled nice. Compared to the other herb it was weaker, but nicer to smoke with a less paranoid high.

Went out to Koh Rung and stayed at the Monkey Island bungalows. Beautiful island with plenty of potential for diving and hiking, but unfortunately I only had time to be there for a night.
The only downside is that it was filled with people who decided to stay up drinking. Music blasting, drunk people yelling late into the night. Dunno why someone would travel all the way to Koh Rung just to get drunk all night and sleep all day. Primitive bungalows for $20 a night. There are other accommodation options that I'd encourage people to check out if they're looking for something quieter. But get there quick, as it seems that the island has been sold to make way for luxury resorts. :(

Anyways I had a great time in Cambodia and would encourage people to check it out. Really mellow, laid back place despite a turbulent history. Didn't find the psychedelic sativa I was looking for, but I was high 24/7 and am quite keen to grow out the seeds...

I recommend Ko Tao, awesome island and not far to Ko pha ngan or Ko samui.
All three islands have plenty of weed and if you visit Ko pha ngan on a fullmoon party your in for something really nice.

ah yeah perhaps I should have mentioned that you shouldnt buy stuff at the full moon party. Prestocking is the way I always do it.
Easy enough around there

Koh Tao was my personal favorite island in the Gulf of Thailand. Sensi seeds apparently even has a resort on the east side of the island... an island which only had 6 cops when I was there a few years back.
On the south side of the island, there is a large rock that appears to be a giant sitting Buddha that you can swim under while appreciating the local sativa.
Koh Phangan is sketchy as hell, however, I found the most astounding rocket ride sativa there. I still occasionally call it nightmare weed, because it would get me so paranoid and riddled with anxiety that I would put out the joint 1/3 of the way through, POSITIVE that I could see the cops through every solid object in my way. Trippin. Thoughts and heart racing, I would realize that I was high beyond belief EVERY time. I got to really, really enjoy that herb. All seeds were busted due to pressure during bricking. Bummer. Time to send back some live tissue cultures!

thnks for sharing- lots of peace on koh tao, best noodle soup, clearest water I've ever had the pleasure of swimming in...oh man now I'm really thinking about that place
amazing, that entire place is perfect.
