Is useing unsecrured WiFi safe?

I was thinking of ditching my internet. I can get free unsecured internet, but how safe is using it. should i ever worry about security?

Once someone notices you are surfing on his signal, he'll lock it...

I use others wifi if I'm out, but I gotta have my own at home...

Always worry about security - no real names, no phone numbers, no personal pics.

Absolutely, 100% unsafe. If you and I were connected to the same network, I could use 2 simple programs to see every single data packet to and from your computer. If you connect to someone else's network, this is easily possible. Sometimes I leave my wifi AP open and let people connect and see exactly what they are using MY internet connection for

You'd have to be out of your mind to post on this site using an unsecured wireless network.

Ditto 311. If someone knows what they are doing, it is super easy. Unsecured is ok for basic surfing, but not for anything else. Security is always 1st - with your grow and with your isp.

Doesnt the name say it all, it is unsecure!!! Another thing to think about is that if there is an open network in an apt. complex, housing addition, trailor park, or any other high volume living areas, it could be left open for the sole purpose of stealing info.

Thank you guys for all the input. I was wondering about switching company's to a cheaper service. I have noticed about 5 unsecured networks in my area. I am glad i asked, as i am not to internet savy. I have been a victim of ID theft 6 years ago, it's not fun. So thanks agian
