Is this a suitable way to get a mother plant?

Grow a strain from seed. Take cuts in veg. flower out plants from seed. Remove Males from seed, and cut. Use the cut from the best plant as a mother.

Or do you have to use the plant from seed as the mother. (I heard something about using cut's watering down the genes over time)

Not true about the cuts otherwise strains like Williams Wonder, and Diesel would suck.
Cervantes has corrected his book to include this.
I do bonsai mums and found that it is better to start from a clone. I usually make a bonsai from seed, then after the keeper is found ,start again from a clone.

This is only because I can keep the main stem shorter and the plant height shorter for my needs.

clones are best taken from seed-plants in our experience,

old mother plants (from seed or clone) soon get "played-out" after a while

remember cannabis is an annual

hope this helps

If that were the case, all the old elites clone onlys, I have would be "played-out". Trust me the 20+ year old Original Vancouver Is. Hashplant and Ae77 Cali Orange mothers arent "played-out" and never will be.
