Is there a way to come up with all male seeds?

This is anecdotal, but it seems to me that warmer temps during sprouting and early veg tend to create more males. I noticed this after sprouting a summer batch of seeds. The seeds I sprouted and grew in the spring were mostly female. Seeds from the same seed run sprouted in mid summer were mostly male. Anecdotal, like I said.

I like your 180 degree approach and out of the box thinking. Far out.

As Welder Dan stated, purely 'anecdotal'...I copy and pasted this a long time ago, don't know where it came from.

• High nitrogen levels in vegetative growth have shown to produce more females than males. This might be a good reason to use feeds with a higher N to P and K ratio rather than foods with an equal N to P and K ratio. Remember though that plant burn will only lead to stress and this will produce more males and hermaphrodites than females.

• High potassium levels in vegetative growth tends to produce more males than females. Keeping your potassium levels down is another good reason to choose a food with a higher N than P and K ratio where the P and K ratios are even, or where the K ratio is kept lower than P. Remember though that lack of K can cause plant stress due to this nutrient deficiency and this can cause more males and hermaphrodites to appear than females.

• Cannabis plants grow best under conditions of between 40 and 80 percent relative humidity (rH). In the higher rH range of between 70 and 80 your female to male ratio may increase.

• Cannabis plants grow best at 75 degrees Fahrenheit. If you do not allow the temperatures to increase beyond this you will improve your chances at getting more females than males. If the environment is supplemented with C02 the temperature may be allowed to increase as far as 95 degrees Fahrenheit.

• Using MH lights in vegetative growth will improve your female to male ratio.

If there's something to it, glad I could help...if not...don't blame me!

Peace

I'm no scientist let alone a breeder but I've always taken for granted that sex was determined from the conception of the seed. In the days there was a saying that acidic soil would give more males but to me that was nonsense.
I used to attend science courses in another century but I think I can remember sex change is something that can occurs with fish and reptiles depending on temperature not plants. Sure you can force a plant to show a different gender than what her chromosomes tell but that won't mean you will have more real males. I just stick to the simple approach, If I want more plants of a certain gender I just grow more plants and select what I need after sexing.

Old polen in a fridge that was holded for long time (3-5 years and more) have tendency to produce higher rates of males than females after polination.

I've never bothered looking into it but surely there's a chemical that will force a male to put out female flowers which if hit with pollen would produce male seed as the same process is used to make feminized seeds when the genders are reversed.

Below you can find a link to an interesting article on the subject. It's quite short (only 3 pages) but very interesting. It got published in Experientia February 1970, Volume 26, Issue 2, pp 214–216.

Male clones transformed to Female to judge male smoking qualities

Some additional info:

Fertile female flowers can be induced in male plants by ethephon (2-chloroethanephosphonic acid) and NIA 10637 (ethylhydrogen-l-propylphosphonate). Interestingly, stamens could be seen arising even from fruits. Stopping the application of growth regulators caused the plants to revert to their original sex. We hypothesized that in Cannabis, GA and ethylene act as male and female hormones respectively, and that the expression of sex is controlled by a balance between their endogenous levels. Abscisic acid (ABA) is able to overcome the GA induced male flower formation (Mohan Ram and Jaiswal 1973; Mohan Ram and Sett 1985).

handbook of flowering (ed. Halevy A H) (Boca Raton: CRC
Press) Vol. II, pp 131–139

ethylene and gibberellins in flower sex expression of Canna-
bis sativa; in Proceedings of 8th International Conference on
Plant Growth Substances (Tokyo: Hirokawa Publishing Co)
pp 987–996172

Although many environmental groups worry about toxicity resulting from use of growth hormones and fertilizers, the toxicity of ethephon is actually very low, and any ethephon used on the plant material is converted very quickly to ethylene

No, there is no way to get all male seeds. Male plant carry both the X and Y. So when a reversed male pollinates itself you will still get both male and female seeds.

I am also of the belief that sex is determined at conception. It make sense in my head. Just like some guys have more/all female children, because it's determined at conception. Like I said though, it's MY belief. No science behind it at all. I'm also really high right now, lol. I do think the male is responsible for determining sex, just like in people. But all of what I just said could be totally wrong. There's gotta be more papers on the net like the links above on this topic.

I'm hoping that in the future we will be able to buy male pollen at the same places that we buy seeds

not sure how easily pollen could be kept viable in the mail. I freeze mine in small portions so that when I need it I dont have to take it all out but the minute I take it out I use it right out of the freezer.

I agree that sex is determined at conception, although old seeds tend to produce more males.
This could be because more of the males sprout because they are more vigorous.
If a female plant turns male, it is a hermaphrodite, which will produce male and hermaphrodite seed.
If a female plant produces a couple of male flowers when stressed or left too long, it is an aphrodite, which will produce all female seed (feminized).
I hope this helps.
