Is NightShift Work Less Stressful?

E

EatCannabisRaw

An idea occured to me... what if you hate the stress/noise/crowds of a city... but can't leave?
What if you just were awake when everyone was asleep?

For the last 10 years, if I have let myself, I can EASILY gravitate towards staying up late at night. Its reinforcing to me because I really enjoy the peace of night!

So now I'm looking for a night-shift job.

Would anyone say its more peaceful working at night? I figure it would be a neat way to go... comments? Thx...

Nightshifters get higher rates of cancer, I'm sure going against the grain of your biological clock is a horrible thing for your body. It just wasn't meant to be that way. I'd say working nightshifts are more stressful on your body and is a really bad way of living.

It's not good for your health. Plus a lot of jobs switch you around from night to day every quarter and it takes weeks to get right again.

doesnt take long to get use to but for the first few weeks i found myself falling asleep at traffic lights and waiting for the boss to let me in.. My cure was to wake up a good hour before work starts eat then go off to work..

Pay isnt a great(off peak/ 15% extra if your lucky 8pm to 6am a few years ago) but you do get the afternoons off before sleeping at say 7 to get up at midnight.

what really sucks is trying to get your normal sleeping pattern back only on weekends/ days off and when the job ends id say a good 3 months till iwas back to norm.

buy heavy curtins for your room maby an a/c last thing you want is trying to sleep in 40c weather + daylight outside and make yourself tired before sleeping dont do what i did over the months got down to sleeping for only a few hours in the end youll throw the job in and likley get alittle angry

3rd shift sux. ive done it before, plastics, spacificly injection molded facilities are cold especialy at ngiht, prepare to get sick.
i also worked in a microchip/wafer plant and that was the best job i had... 11pm-7am, but they laid off loads of people... best thing i think is to get amid-day job (noon-8:30) you can sleep in, you can stay up late, and you never get stuck in traffic....
wednesday night? want to hit the bar? no problems getting up at 11am.... hahaha

better than no work.

ive never worked a "dedicated" night shif.

ive worked on fishing boats that work 18+ hrs a day 7 days a week.

if i had my own luxury job id work (2) 20 hr shifts w/ an 8 hour break in between...then a 5 day weekend.

I work 2nd shift...go to work at 4, get off at 12. you dont have to wake up to an alarm clock and you can stay up as late as you want! I definately enjoy it. been doing it for years and it's great.. as far as 3rd shift...I would hate that. plus you wouldnt get to see anyone that often

swing shift (2pm-10pm or 4pm-midnite) isn't too bad on the body and mind but working graveyard shift is just burnout work, you'll wind up hating it.

wow i worked nites 15yrs I guess. 1O ta 6 most of the jobs. days off were treated the same as on days. i would just sleep less on days off.

I also worked w/fish...5pm to 7 or 9 am the next day for months on end. no days off. well we did get the 4th of july off. good money, but kill ya fast.

i can not do a 9 to 5. no no no. im of the nightcriers clan of ancient.

I guess that would depend on the job,
but me I always like the night shift, less people around.

from my experience working 3rd shift ( 10-ishpm to 6-ish am), co-workers supervisors seem more laid back. I think the working atmosphere is better, but odd hour are hard on a person.

also, like kingeater talked about...i had probs with dozing at the wheel and that sux

its better than no work like the other poster said. i work from 5:30 pm - 2 am and its decent...it really depends...im customer servoce for a cruise line and right now its busy, take calls world wide...so one day you could be up to your kneck in shit...some days your jut playing cross words watching time tick by slowly...it depends on the job & the person man...its deff better than waking up one hour early to rush hour traffic only to be 10 minutes late cuz you wanted to get a coffee and the line was a mile long!

being nocturnal fucks with your circadian cycle, plus you don't get in the sunlight, so there are serotonin problems right there. if you have to be a night-owl, maybe you should check out some full-spectrum light bulbs

ive done it, it has it advantages and disadvantages like most things. i found it was that hard getting use to it, but it was a lot harder get back to a regular day schedule when i stopped the job
