Bought a 70 watt hps kit thingy that i took apart and wired the ballast and ignitor to an extension cord

Crazy how it puts off a bright orange, and when i look at my bulb it is not blinding as i though it would be

it has a little white pole in the middle , and only like the white pole is lit up, a little on the top or bottom isnt lit up

is this how its suppose to look?

you should step up to aleast 150 tho, if you know how to do 70 w wiring you should spend a couple more bucks and gbet a 150 hps security lamp at lowes
Then you could use the 70 and 150 and have 220, alot better, you will notice a difference.

pmsskg soulda stuck with the cfls in that small space. if your lookijg to grow alot of weight step up to a hydrohut and get some serious lights. cfls would have done just fine in that little space. peace ll

just a nother random question, just got home from work looked at my plants had em like 4 inches away from my hps and some ends of leaves are burnt a little bit some none at all. Last night I had it at 6 inches and it chilled so now I know my threashold for my area and light...

I know if you keep compact flouros more than a inch away from the plant it makes the plant stretch to the light, Is this the same senario with HPS bulbs?

HID lighting runs alot hotter than cfl...as you have already learned, you need to keep it farther away :joint:

yup seems to be working fine. ive got a 70w, but a frosted bulb and you will see the plants wont bend and twist like the do with weak floros, they will all point right up at it.

make sure you use a reflector and make sure you have many many tops as light penetration, although better than floro, will not penetrate to the lower half of the plant. i topped myclones to get like 10 colas, each cola was around 1/4 oz :)
