Is Marijuana Really Responsible For California's Drought?

If you take out the dams and stop construction on any new ones...

That creates a problem, which in the short term, we cannot fix.

We cannot depend on the weather, we need to build more dams.

More dams is not the answer. Dams cause huge environmental problems.

imagine if people knew the answer was as simple as not sucking cock for life.

arcology, wanna learn about it? no? you go back to suck a cock.

hey, philosophical stoners, want to learn about epistemology?

no? okay, i guess you like cock so much.

shit, i reckon there's a bunch of stuff people just don't want to learn about. because they're so busy sucking cocks, sorry, but valuable life information, not interested, all we need is to suck the american lifestyle cock.

you enjoy that cock now, america.

and not only is a large part of your food grown there but also for our supermarkets in australia as well , cheap oranges , olives and wine just to name a few are flooding our markets ..just these few commodities are well known users of large quantities of water ..i remember back in the late seventies on a current affairs show the discussion with a japanese conservationist , can't remember his name , but well known at the time , was about the latest oil scare , they thought we were running out then , this jap said "you people think that running out of oil is your biggest worry , well mark my words , come a time and we will run out of water and will be shipping it in ! "..well , we all thought then that this guy had lost the plot but how right he was ...hmmm, david suzuki , i think his name was ..

It's already happening

they are growing way too many crops in places that did not have enough water to do it with, and have way too many people in the same areas. give it a few years of drought/low snowfall for irrigation, guess what? SHORTAGE! unless mother nature gives in and snow/rain returns to normal, it is only going to get worse. blaming it on smelt , salmon, cattle or pot is just pointing fingers away from the real culprits - too damn many farms in the wrong places, too many golf courses, too many people. their only choice is large-scale desalination plants and cutting way the fuck back on farming, lawns, golf courses. oh, and pray for rain! good luck with that last one...

There is no singular source of blame. The lack of water is attributed to () things;

Irresponsible irrigation practices (moving water to places like Arizona/nevada/south eastern California)

Corporations whom use water as or in their products (nestle, arrowhead, Sierra Nevada, nut tree farmers, ect)

Most importantly is PEOPLE. How much water is consumed/wasted/or used by people whom don't have a legal right to access the resource to begin with (not mentioning the legal citizens). Whether they be an illegal alien, irresponsible migrant worker, or just a visitor to the land isn't important. 32oz water MINIMUM a day per each of those humans.

Lastly and less significantly is the cyclical nature of Earth and the contribution of El Niño to the warm pressure system that's been idling off Baja/California for the last 5 months. If you're into ecology at all you'll notice a direct correlation with El Niño and the 100year flood that central CA is known for.

el oh fucking el?

and who made you the fucking water police?

if you are on earth you deserve water and food and whatever else you need to live.

people who think they have a right to collect resources and then distribute them as they see fit are the problem. cough nestle. cough. millions of bottles of water a day leaving cali :cough:blamemexicans:cough:

Not policing, just analyzing. Also, I'm not targeting any ONE race. Currently I'm going through a post-grad UC-Ecology program and, unlike most, I am visiting ALL kinds of ranches and farms in CA/USA ranging from fruit bearing orchards to spice plantations to Bison ranches and without fail there are always a plethora of farmers or herders who are from northern africa, India, Laos, thailand, Lebanon, pakistan, ect ect... Farmers and land workers are not JUST Mexican.

Do they deserve water, yes. Do they deserve to stay and keep using OUR(USA) water when they haven't gone through the immunization process unlike their fellow LEGAL countrymen and women, no. Do they deserve the opportunity to live in a better place like our country, yes, but so does everyone else on that long as fuck waiting list who's getting shafted by the illegal policy abusers and ethically shortsighted folks like stihgnob.

Stihgnob: I think everyone does deserve an opportunity which is why I think you should go down to your state capitals Dept of INS and see what YOU can do to sponsor an ever so deserving,::cough::cough::Mexican::cough::, since those are the only types of illegals you seem to acknowledge. EVEN better, you should quit growing herb and donate your water to them... because they deserve to drink it more than you deserve meds, right? I mean, they are human--not a plant or microbe or a concentrated chemical compound.

All in all, the TTIP is the leading facet driving this current controversy and if you look into Googles artificial cloud generating technology (cloud seeding) and pay attention to the ecological aftermath then compare it to the current state of astronomical affairs in CA you'll notice an odd similarity. If anyone thinks I'm talking hot wind, I encourage you to do the math yourselves.

I think it's foolish to blame our water problems on plants, especially one species. Human overpopulation is a much bigger cause of the problem. The way I look at it all living things are essentially water storage. When cannabis is grown it is watered and as it grows it retains water. After it is harvested, the plant is dried and water returns to the environment. Same for humans. We consume water and store it until we die and the water is released back. Male humans are about 65% water on average. That is a lot of water every human is carrying around. The larger our population is the more water is stored in "human storage". On top of that with more population we need more crops(more water) and more drinking water to survive. We need to do a better job of balancing population, water availability, water needs, and crops.

Sorry y'all for being off-topic but after being called out as a potential "racist" I'll retort and then cease my engagement with the person below and stick to more positive matters of thought from then on.

that totally doesn't sound racist. not one bit. but seriously. did you check their backgrounds too? how are all these illegal immigrants running all these farms and no one catching on? did you at least report them to ICE/INS/FDA/USDA?

As I stated firstly, there is no sole entity responsible for ALL of our h2o issues.

After taking 15 minutes out of my day to review your contributions to this sight I've determined that you sir, are a shit stirrer. You're either despicably ignorant or a half-wit lousy troll.

I welcome one and all to the USA and upon passing through successfully, my government's naturalization processes, would welcome each to my home for tea and a chat. I also realize there are over 130 currently recognized countries, each with their own unique spirits.

Furthermore, just because someone is human doesn't negate the fact that we are all part of an ecosystem and when energy activation(water, thought process) is being hoarded by an invader/alien, microbe, parasite, fungus, pathogen, person, or corporation(group of people) the affected entities BATTLE back in efforts to rebalance homeostasis.

We all know where you stand and how much pride you have in your country and it's living foundation despite whatever your race, creed, or metaphysical beliefs may be. Good luck to you navigating life stihgnob and carry on with your cherry-picking argumentative self.

Don't underestimate lawns. Grass is actually the #1 (crop) consumer of water in the world.

We're really stupid with our water use.

This thread makes me laugh! Is this question a joke? California is in a drought because a lack of rain/snow or precipitation.I suppose we can talk about water consumption. But that really has nothing to do with California being in a drought. Just my 2 cents.

California has always been short on water. San Diego gets its water from the Colorado river. LA gets its water from robbing the Owens valley water shed of the eastern sierras.

California has always controlled water with dams and reservoirs. The current drought is manufactured by politicians and envirofascists by letting the water we usually save in said reservoirs to run out into the ocean.

Rain has nothing to do with the current water crisis.

Was shocked to read this. Then I found this story.

Yeah, thanks for posting that. When I clicked on the story I didn't get a pay wall and was able to read it fine. Now I do. It's about the Feds draining reservoirs for the fish - reservoirs large enough to provide water for about a half million people for a year.

Thanks for posting that link.

Look into the delta smelt and the Sacramento river watershed. I am a conservationist as a hunter and spend free time watering wildlife in the desert and restoring natural springs whereiI hunt for the critters.

What the powers that be have done to our water and our state is criminal.
