is "dudding" widespread in California/on west coast?

has anyone else seen the main-stream news articles yesterday about Cali weed? they are saying that a huge % of west coast weed is infected with a disease (HVLd) that attacks plants while in flower, greatly reducing (up to 90%) the THC content. article claims it does not show up until later flowering, and because of that, mother plants carry it and no problems show up until the clones are flowered. will this encourage more to grow from seed? i've grown from clones, but they were MY clones, from plants i had flowered before.

You weren't online for a bit, weren't you? It's widespread allegedly but I can't verify how far actually. Reliable clone vendors are now testing their stock regularly.

There are tell tale signs in veg and early flower as well ime. Ive heard of some showing no signs but i could always tell. Strains that normally have big leaves will have small ones, stay short and lateral branches will grow outward instead of up. The stems become brittle and overall the plants have no vigor. Ive also seen plants where only one lateral branch would have it. Its been around undiagnosed for a long time. StormShadow was one of the first people to really address this on here a LONG time ago.

i had NOT seen this, no. i've seen "dudding" mentioned on here a couple of times, but it now seems to be everywhere if googled.

Lots of talk about it for sure.

But as a phenomenon I suppose nothing new. Threads about Tobacco Mosaic Virus go back to the earliest days of ICMag. Clones are still big as ever. But certainly a point in favor of growing from seeds.

Supposedly tissue culture from very tip of new growth can salvage clone strains and they are as good as new. Requires some sterile work like mushrooms and 3 months to get to small plant.

Close but, unless meristem is involved it will NOT remove viroid. There is lots of misinformation about this hah

I use the transporter to send my clones somewhere and then bring them back and let the transporter filter do its job and remove diseases when rematerialized. I should just use the replicator to make new clones but I like knowing I kept my clones going.
I had a clone that would just continually produce plants with one or 2 dud branches. So I flowered one and during flowering they show up soon. So I knew which branches were good. I removed 2 dudding branches thenI cut one good branch top and rooted it and revegged it. The other 2 good branches I left on and revegged the whole plant.
When everything was revegged I took new cuttings and rooted them. When I flowered them they still had dudding branches. I got rid of all plants that had dudding. I kept the strains that didn't. So it didn't infect everything I had. I did have a Chem D that forever lost its smell but is still potent. It never dudded but it was always around the dudding plants.
I eventually got back the strains I really wanted but cut way back on numbers. I also started popping more seeds which was what got me started and hooked on growing to begin with.
It hurts but get rid of those dudds. I started using Regalia and Venerate for pest/disease control and sometimes have to get chemical with mites on new recruits I get that have some unwanted passengers on them.

Does anyone know of cheap home test or reasonably priced service for HLVd testing?? Agdia has machine for $10K then have to buy 48 tests for $700. Most others do not post prices.
