I believe hydroton is the worst medium. Bio buckets with lava will be the best hydro medium. Hydroton has problem with iron retention and leaching of mineral. I have work with nft, ebb n flo is good for self maintenace but my coir run have out done my hydroton medium. Now if you mix it with coir is okay. Not as a solo medium.

I'm gonna say that COCO would probably yeild the best for a new guy. I think an aero setup could probably beat the yeild but it also depends on the grower and the conditions. Any hydroponic grow is gowing is gonna be close in yeilds if the grower has everything else worked out and dialed in. Soil can also bring the same yeilds, it will just take a litlle longer. It's not really a question with a simple solid ansewer, and asking the coco grower's and definately not gonna bring you a non-biased opinion.
But COCO is awesome.

the thing is that coco gives the best of both worlds, you get a great complex taste as well as getting quick hydro growth and yields. although i believe some of the aeroponic aeroflows will beat the coco yield wise, but never come close taste wise. while the potential for error in an aeroponic set up is huge, it is minimal in the same sized coco setup. there are many factors to consider, when they are all looked at, one has to admit the fact the coco is just a superior medium for our hobby. no air stones, no chillers and no pumps running 24/7,no root rot, no root temp problems. much less high temp problems over all. great buffering, very forgiving and basic simplicity thats a treat to work with.

Coco coir Rocks !

My friends have noticed that their plants grown in coco are more potent than in hydroton.
Hydroton just sucks big time, it's a pita to clean. I have noticed an "after cough" when smoking hydroton+dripper buds, that can be avoided by good rinsing. It's like a tingling irritation at the back of the throat, when I buy bud I can usually tell if it's grown in hydroton.
Plants in coco are more potent and the taste can be far better than in clay pebbles with less job, IMHO.

I think I'll load mah beebe with some OHxSk#1 now and start getting ready for sauna!

not highest yielding. Aeroponics no medium is the top yielder. Coco seems to really be more about the BEST ALL AROUND medium, as far as maintenance, flavor, and yields, but not the best at any one.

edit: BTW, your poll isn't going to tell you squat when you put it into a forum full of coir-heads:wink:

my last grow in 100% coco i yielded 20Oz off on plant and 25+ off the other :woohoo: .. in 55litre pots.

Id agree with most here coco wont majicly give you a massive yield but the chances are yield would improve from recirc clay to run to wate coco for someone just learning the trade.

Simple and easier with fewer problems, and suits all types of growing, sog, scrog, rtw runto waste, recirc, have even seen areo jet fed roots in coco pot in a pot style. Has its pros and cons but a worthy medium.. where im from 10years ago 80% of growers here where growing in clay recirc or rock wool not being able to grow in the three hottest months of the year (root rot) issues Now more like 75% in coco growing year round but does vary grow shop to shop

Biggest yield so far, but haven't trialed a full run of DWC or aero....just experiments with 1 or 2 here and there, but for the same space/watts the coir yielded better. Best all around medium is the better way to put it, as others have. When you can automate the yields go up and labor goes down making it even better.

Can someone please explain why the coco coir is so great? I don't know much about coco, is it the ammount of air the roots get? What makes it great?

Peace
