is 600 watts to much??????

hello all.. in need of sum quick help here.. as a newbie to indoors and af's, wanting to make sure 600 watts hps isnt to much for a 3.5'x4 and 8 ft tall..was planning on going with a 600 watt from digital greenhouse.. gunna be running blue streak and diesel ryder from the bay..only plan on doing 3-5 plants at a time..going to be doing this for seed production, in hopes of getting seed for next yrs outdoor crop..any exp. info will be a plus thanks Toker:joint:

That's a great footprint for 600 watts. I would run more than 3-5 plants though. See how many 1 gallon or 2 gallon containers you can fit in that footprint. If it were me, i'd try to cram in at least 25 plants.

According to my calculations, you should be able to squeeze in 30 2gal grow bags in that space. That would be ideal IMO.

Now if you JUST need enough light to do seed runs for next year, then I wouldn't even bother with a 600w, i'd build a 4x23w cfl box or 4x42w cfl box, something along that nature, enough for 3-6 plants, and enough to make thousands of beans.

agreed, if you're going to use the electric and have the space then fill it with as many as you can comfortably fit in there. no point wasting the space

hey barnie and lowrdr thanx alot.no there isnt any reason to waste space, but there is only 10 beans of each.so maybe 20 plants at most, thats if they all pop. but might later use the same space to grow out a few other regular strains for personal and fun.. was just saying 3-5 plants cause of being a newbie to indoors, dont wanna mess this up is all..but have done well outside in the past..well gunna go with a 600 watt and see what happens.thanks again Toker

I agree great footprint, although you can bet heat will be an issue. My closet is 4x4,600w,
450cfm votrex. in the summer even with 2 air conditioners upstairs it still quickly climbs up to 85 sometimes higher, and thats in the basement where its much cooler than the rest of the house.....so yes, great footprint but is it worth dealing with the heat?...
if I could go back in time I probably would have got a 400w instead of the 600w.
the extra wattage isnt really gonna help your yield if you have heat issues.
VENTILATION IS KEY,so buy a good exaust fan.
I wish you luck, hope this helps.

What if the space is moved to 3.5x5 would that be better? 600 watt is on the way..also the closet is only at 65-68 degrees f. rite now and this is gunna be a winter seed run indoor for all personal.and uses for outside later on.there is only 20 beans of the af's but do have sum white widow (fem) and few freebies from the bay..could u add in sum w.w about 1/2 way thru the af's cycle and then when af's are done finish the widow on out under 12/12?

Dirt is your reflector air cooled? I've recently set up a 400w coolshade in my 90 x 80 cm closet and temps are spot on. looks mega bright in comparison to my previous cfl setup :)

yes,I have a cooltube. My temps are perfect at the moment, but next summer will be strictly outdoors, less hassle. yeah HID's are blinding in comparison to cfls.
I bet your loving the new 400w.
