I've always used my old Canon camera for my weed picts, mainly because I had a magnetic ballast, and iPhones show black bars on photos under HID lighting. Now I have a digital ballast, and thought I'd give my far-superior iPhone 7 camera a shot. I am very disappointed in the results, shown in the attached photo.
Unlike the camera, the iPhone has no white balance setting, so color adjustments have to be done after the fact. On the left is the photo taken by the iPhone, no tweaking, and it's VERY orange. The middle shot is the best I could do with adjusting the color in Photoshop (Photos was worse). No matter how much I reduced the orange, there just wasn't enough green in the original photo. The darker-green plants in the background look somewhat green, but the lighter-green plant in the foreground (Maui Wowie x Blackberry Kush) is completely yellow. Compare those to the pict on the right, which is right off the camera, no adjustment whatsoever. All I did was set the white balance before taking the photo. Colors are right on.
Just wondering if anybody else has had better luck with an iPhone. Are there any tricks to getting the phone to adjust to HPS or MH lighting?
