The IPhone is awesome!
The net on it is a full browser called Safari. It's NOT the stripped down version of the internet like on ALL other cell phones & PDA's, despite the claims of someone above saying that the Treo is better (to even entertain a thought like that, he obviously hasn't touched an iPhone).........it's not even in the same ballpark as the IPhone.

my dad can beat up your dad! lol

ps no one said anything was better than anything...read Mr. NM's post when you get a moment from making out with steve jobs

Yea I need a all in one device to surf, text, watch tv, and talk while I try to drive in rush hour traffic. What a waste. Since it is a Apple it will sell like hotcakes tho.

god doesnt know how much the data plan is... i do... its free with the service(well actually its something like 10-20 bucks tacked on to the regular voice plans, data is unlimited) 400 minutes + unlimited data for 60 bucks a month doesnt sound that bad...

also safari is a 'real' browser if you want to look up html standards for mobile browsing, im certainly not going into detail.

i am more interested in the hacks that are being developed for this kit than using it as a phone.

ya ya rip off blah blah get a job

After playing with one in the store, I highly incourage anyone who is skeptical of how well built and how well designed they are to go use one for a few minutes, everything about them is very easy to use, with the exception of the touch keyboard and I will take a guess that over a few days time that a keyboard would be easy enough to master.

Combine that and the recent price drop to 399 and the phone is becoming more and more attractive to me. In a year and a half or however long till my contract is up and I can get a new phone easily they should be down to 299 and storage should be atleast 20GB. Then I will buy one.

It's an apple, enough said. It will only sell because of their marketing is far superior, just look at the ipod, people still haven't realized it sucks.

What's wrong with the ipod? High price? I use mine everyday and it gets abused but keeps on tickin' They are built very well and has the easiest to use interface i've tried.

i have a nokia 5300 xpressmusic phone which does everything an iphone does. It was 100 bucks with a 30 dollar rebate and i get like 1200 minutes a month for 60 bucks.

You can't view entire web pages with that phone, like the iPhone can. And I bet you can't go to youtube and watch videos with it either, so not really "everything an iPhone does" right?

ok. but i dont think paying 400 extra dollars to view the internet when there is usually a computer around anyways is in any way, shape, or form a good move.

I can't afford one, sure. But if I were making cross country plane trips on a regular basis, with long layovers in random cities for example, I would probably get one. It's still cheaper than a laptop, and can do a lot of the same shit. The video looks great on them too, so watching movies and surfing the internet with complete pages makes it pretty intriguing. I probably wouldn't use the actual phone part much, too busy online and watching movies.

HAD ONE SINCE DAY ONE

HAD ONE SINCE DAY ONE

Ok, so I got it the day it came out. I still can't believe I would wait in a line for any type of marketing hype, but alas this is Apple. I hated computers and technology in general, and then I got a mac, and it all made sense.

I usually buy their first gen stuff, and have always been impressed. My OG spin wheel iPod is still kicking. Not only that, but everytime they released something, it seemed perfect, to me. Then, without fail they will make it better. Sadly, I cannot say this about the iPhone. 2 Software updates later and I still can't highlight text?!?

Even the iPod part of it will schitz out if I am listening, surfing the net and then try to check mail. So as an iPod, it is not great. As a phone? Screw apple. I don't think they even have cell phone towers. Near as I can tell, their "network" consists of several hundred tin cans and a few miles of twine. It would be laughable if I didn't need to be able to make and recieve calls/txts.

2 bits of false advertising, one per company. AT&T? Fewest dropped calls. Please, I never knew what the hell AT&T meant in their commercials about dropped calls, when I was on Verizon. Now that I have this shit, it is at least once a phone call, and it takes me at least 2 attempts to place any call. This happens with full bars, mind you. I swear they advertise "fewest dropped calls" just so everyone on AT&T will think all cell phones are still in the Zack Morris age.

StayHigh, Apple's bit of false advertising pertains to their claim, and now yours, that the iPhone is the "full internet". Whilst it is far better than only having access to the pared down "mobile internet", it is far from being the "whole" 'net. How much can you really do when the browser doesn't support MIME, MPEG, JAVA, etc. Yes, you can see the page, but does it count if the page is showing you a "browser not supported" type message... you follow?

Bottom line? It is a revolutionary device, it will continue to get better, and other companies are going to find themselves innovating or dying. Before yesterday's price slash, I would have said wait for generation 2 or the price slash. I was thinking it would come a bit later, with a few more software updates in the meantime. Now that it is 200 bucks cheaper, I would say that if you love gadgets, and have the cash, go for it. If you really want it, but it is now just tantalizingly out of your reach, don't put it on the card. Just wait for Generation 2, and let me and everybody else take the hit for the team. See, that's why I got it and that's why I am keeping it. It helps assure them that this is something people want, and then they sink in the time and money to make it better.

My .02... Hope they help.

two guys get in a car accident...one has a t-mobile Wing, the other an AT&T IPhone. Both have a horrible crash on the expressway. Both guys suffer damage not only to their body but their touch screens no longer work. Guy with the t mobile wing calls 911 with qwerty key pad. the death bell of the i phone....lower prices...if i paid full retail when it came out id be fuming right now.

Not like all other PDA or any other device like that isnt monitored.

pssst.... we just got 100 bucks back, half the difference. I'm stoked they biffed like this, and were kind enough to gimme that back. I just paid 500 for mine now, and although that is still retarded, it makes these problems much less magnified.

A guy from engadget describes the iPhone as a threesome with you, Angelina Jolie, and Rosie O'Donnell. iPhone is Jolie, AT&T is Rosie, and you are guy getting effed.

iphone is a POS, and cingular sucks dick. I had an 8525 with cingular, and it worked better than an iphone, but like I said, cingular ****ing sucks, so went back to sprint with the Mogul, support for 4gb micro cards, has a real ****ing keyboard, and has a swapable battery, everything that POS iphone DOESN'T have.

cute toy though, i'm sure it's a hit with the west hollywood and san francisco crowd, with their cute mini coopers too.

Not only is the mini cooper S "cute" the thing handles like a frigging go-kart. Most fun car I have driven in a while. Look at that one like a pink shirt. Sure gays wear them, but so do straight guys with a sense of style, and who know it's prolly gonna get them laid. The people who complain about them are the closeted homos, who are uncomfortable with their own sexual identity. Or they just can't afford one, prolly because they are now employed as a hater. Or are they employed as a hater because they can't afford them? Huh. Raque, any more thoughts?

What is up with all of this hating on Apple?

Everyone is yakking on an on about how the iPhone is a rip off of Treo. Blah, blah, blah!

A Quick Note for Everyone:
There is nothing new under the sun!

Nearly any innovation you can name was the result of a development process that took it's cues from a previous product. Sure the Treo came out first, internet access, SMS, email and such, but you have to admit, it wasn't a very elegant device to use. So what did Apple do? Find the flaws in the Treo's functionality and interface, correct them, and then implement those corrections within a slickly designed user interface.

Personally, I had my doubts, but when I had the opportunity to use an iPhone, I was impressed... The screen is big, bright, and beautiful; the on-screen keypad functioned flawlessly, as did Safari (internet on the iPhone), so whoever was dishing on that clearly hadn't had an opportunity to try it out for themselves.

My point? Don't get mad at Apple because they beat the smart phone market at their own game...
