Iphone and other GPS smartphones users in danger !

Hello,

I am moderator on another non-english growing forum, and would like to point out a danger that has recently been brought to my knowledge.

Users of Iphones or other GPS capable camera phones or digital cameras may very well be giving up their exact GPS position through the EXIF data contained in the pictures they post.
This data is extremely easily accessible for anyone with a brain and a computer, therefore creating a huge security risk (police, but also potential burglars know exactly where u are)
The only way to avoid this is to disable the geolocalisation on your phone/camera.

I guess the admins of the website should take this issue into account asap.

Greetings and all the best for 2010 :santa1:

This has been brought up before but always is worth a mention.

It is was also brought up that the forum software itself is stripping exif data but I haven't verified this.

Also note that you can/should strip exif data prior to posting. This will remove camera type, model, gps location etc.

jhead is a nice command line tool to remove exif data.
jhead -de *.jpg on the cmd line will remove ALL exif data from all .jpgs in a directory.

Stripping EXIF data is too easy to pass the job on to someone else. Personal responsibility is a good thing.
