Heres some pics of a plant that had root rot. The red/pinkish coloring in the roots is where there is some root rot. It was mushy to the touch and had a stinky odor.

The roots are suprisingly strong. It was not easy to break up the media.

A plant over 5' tall grew from this root ball, not a lot media for such a big plant.

your roots look wierd, maybe first picture of them looks a bit like mine root systems, though that white chunks are mystery to me.
i always thought that the root system basic healthy color is white as possible and i know some nutrients stain the roots a bit but not like that in those other pictures below - seems that you growing in dwc? what are those browny stalky thingys in the other pictures?

ah ok i didint read all the text before i posted...
you need aquarium chiller and some insulation, maybe the bucket fit on 300cm diameter insulation ducting? like this http://www.head-nature.com/tree/405...article/05004/Duct-Hose,-soundproofed,-315-mm

Whats up K! Nice avatar.

The second pic is Catmans root ball and I believe that he let it dry out for a while before he took the pic. I am not positive on his media but I think it was perlite and sure to grow.

This last pic is my plant. My tailpiece clogged and the bucket didnt drain, drowning my roots. A chiller would not have prevented this from happening. The system I grow in does not require a chiller. It is not dwc ';b but seems to perform as well.

The media is diatomite and rice hulls. Im guessing that the brown stalky things your wondering about are the rice hulls.

Homie, you missed where he said other pictures. That's plural homie, meaning more than one. Meaning, he wasn't talking to me.

The roots *in my pic* were dried for several weeks. FWIW, plants were started in sure to grow, but that aside the medium was a 50/50 mix of screened perlite and Turface MVP. I used Fox Farm's line and the roots were plenty white while they was growin.

Check out these massive bitches I grew with essentially the same nutrient regime, in sunshine mix #5 + added perlite, in half filled party cups, and around a 150w vertical HPS

I know that's a lot of bud for IR and I had to boost some of the shorties up closer to the light...so what do I know? :ying:

Good luck getting a honest answer. Ya might want to look into techniques of how to keep little mother plants and if yas already know, think about it a bit...Hope that helps.

i do mine in short veg, i don´t have the space for keeping mother plants but i know they can end looking massive as that.

Homie! glad to have ya here! LOL, it was YOU though who missed something, that something was the rest of my post where I addressed my photos as well. Its all gravy though. :tiphat:
Im gonna see if we can let that root ball dry out, but no promises.

K grower,
I vegged for around 4.5 weeks. I dont have an exact number but that should be pretty close. Theres some pics of giant plants in my PPK thread in my sig.

what are those rubber gourmets in ppk thread from pvc pipe to that blackhose connector, i would love to have similiar parts as i´m building tag, and currently i have all the other accesories.
its low pressure tag whit 20-80 micron spray so the fittings shud take care of the pressure and not to leak by any chance.
