TIL that during the 2008 world hops shortage, the Samuel Adams brewery sold 108 craft breweries their excess hops, at cost, to help prevent them from going under.

From all the craft/microbrewery tours I've been on, the one commonality between them is the propensity for them to share equipment after a useful life at one place, or share ingredients when supplies run low. They are great people who really love what they do and appreciate the other guy's work even if they are a competitor.

Its nice when someone is passionate enough about their craft as a whole to take steps to continue it and set a high bar for the industry. I'm sure Jim Koch knows plenty about struggling breweries and all that, never mind an unexpected hops shortage.

Can proudly say I will always support Sam Adams , Boston Lager is just an awesome brew.

I've never been a fan of Sam Adams as far as beer goes - but reading this does kind of tug on the heart strings a bit. It isn't too often that the common interest is preserved. It certainly gives me a new found respect for the company as a whole - but I still prefer the more craft / micro brew offerings much more on a whole.

My curiosity is sparked though, in wondering if they are now responsible for some of my favorites still being active...

I think as a base response to this knowledge - when I can't have EXACTLY what I want and decide to settle - from now on I'll default to Sam Adams vs another vendor.

I've met many brewers and find some of them are not unlike cannabis growers in their passion for the hops, malts, etc. They know their different strains and phenotypes within their domain and strive to maximize quality/flavors in production of their beverage by selecting and growing only the best varieties...

This simple understanding and knowledge of the general beer market - tells me that legalized cannabis won't be ANY DIFFERENT if done properly. There will always be Budwiser and there will always be those who seek / demand a more craft experience...

How many cannabis farmers would have come off 20,000# at price to see to it their competition didn't dry up??

boy, their industry and cooperation should be how ours is. but its not. pretty much the exact opposite. everybody just steals others hard work and takes the credit for it. there is way too much greed going on in the cannabis movement. if there was a shortage of some sort in the cannabis industry, that commodity would be hoarded and sold at outrageous prices.

a big addaboy to samuel adams! i always liked their beers. now i like their company as well...

Samuel Adams has contracted Hallertau fields in Germany.

They are a huge craft brewery by comparison to microbreweries and are dwarfed by the yellow fizzy beer industry.

Sam Adams makes up about one percent of market.

If cannabis holds to the standard we have set in this country for beer, there is going to be tons (literally) of yellow fizzy tasteless smoke.

But if you want to pay even more there will always be some high priced decent stuff

I'm not a beer drinker, will be buying some Sam Adams when I go to the store this weekend.

And yeah, I don't mind the tons of beasters. If I had the option of picking up $10 worth of beaster at the convenience store right now, it'd be better than the zero weed of any kind that I do have.

Hurricane High Gravity Lager is reknown as the greatest beerlike flavored malt (and corn and rice and anything else on the floor) liquoresque beverage amongst many homeless drunks.

And those homeless drunks are the ones who seem to have the highest standards when it comes to beer...

now before getting my usual splash of neg reps let's remember that as stoners we typically pride our superior decision making ability over that of drinkers.

AND there are countless threads buried here in the annals of the Toker's Den pertaining to equipment lent but never returned, getting fucked over for seeds, clones, finished weed etc; good deeds by righteous growers gone bad.
