interesting plant from a 10 pack of mandala's chill om

this plant is a 1 month old medium sized plant with very small leaves and weird flower formations. i cloned a branch and ill probably turn it into a mother plant

what do you call a plant with flower formation like the one in the pic? is this plant worth breeding? i might donate a clone to a dispensary

growing in 420 soil (some pre amended soil from a nursery) and watering with plain water

I remember another member with a plant bud like yours,

I'll look around for the thread. It will get bigger and freakier.

there are some thai strains that do this. it's believed that they are Polyploid.
that means it has double the amount of chromosomes.

thanks. hopefully after some reading i can make seeds and distribute them. when i get enough clones ill probably sell them to harbor side and ill send gypsy's crew like 20-30 f1's (first generation right?) so a better breeder can step in without the competition

hey larry
did that plant grow a lot faster then the others???

mandala's website says the best plants are tall and female, especially for clones, this one is about medium height at about 1 month in under 1000w hps in a 3 gal pot using pre amended store bought soil

Hashberry! Lol....I believe it was a hashberry:)

mandala's has great seeds for their price, id buy more packs but i have three 4 foot tall mother plants for the next grow cycle, two of them have trichomes on the fan leaves

I've had polyploid buds twice before. They tend to be really dense and weigh a bit more. Rare treats

afaik polyploid cannot be determined without genetic testing.

what you're seeing is called fasciation as larry said.

i had a lady cane do that on one branch only. i pruned it off but kept it like a cut flower in a vase of water for a while. definitely fascinating

wiki

Faciation, also known as cresting, is a relatively rare condition of abnormal growth in vascular plants in which the apical meristem (growing tip), which normally is concentrated around a single point and produces approximately cylindrical tissue, instead becomes elongated perpendicularly to the direction of growth, thus, producing flattened, ribbon-like, crested, or elaborately contorted tissue.[1] Fasciation may also cause plant parts to increase in weight and volume in some instances.[2] The phenomenon may occur in the stem, root, fruit, or flower head. Some plants are grown and prized aesthetically for their development of fasciation.[3] Any occurrence of fasciation has several possible causes, including hormonal, genetic, bacterial, fungal, viral and environmental causes.

Well you know, if every book and website with pictures of polyploid buds that look exactly like that say it's polyploid then so do I.

Ploidy levels such as polyploid can only be determined by chromosome counting or flow cytometry, or by genetic testing which elucidates the amount of DNA compared to a known diploid control. I have seen many claims of polyploid plants on the internet, with only a rare few actually being polyploid, so don't believe what you read on the internet.

Larry, if you are really interested in trying to breed this plant to try to recover this trait/ determine the degree of heritability, you should self the plant rather than make F1 outcross seeds which will simply bury the trait in the outcross generation. A self-cross will have a higher chance of recovering the trait in the next generation if it is in fact genetic in origin.

Colorado Juicy Fruit clone does that.

It's an interesting trait for sure but the buds are a pain to trim up & generally dont yield well.

chimera, maybe you can answer this question i've been wondering for months: why did only one branch of my lady cane faciate?

ty for the breeding tip, ill self a couple of clones.. how many times do i have to back cross it? or can i just send the selfed seeds to seed boutique?

hopefully i can turn this rare plant into something everyone can enjoy

some updates: i had a bad infestation of white flies so i chucked everything. i should've just let them sit outside but i panicked

here are clones of the plant, I'm thinking of calling it little foot because of the leaves

hopefully when these plants are big enough to clone off of, ill make some seeds.
