Just watching the news here in michigan and a story was being talked about regarding a home fire over the holiday weekend. They went on to say that the house took on a lot of damage from a bedroom upstairs and although the fire was to believed to be started by outdoor christmas lights. They went on to say that the local cops said the home owner was Legal Med Patient and had the right to grow pot. Although they found light and stuff in the house, they didnt believe it was the reason for burning down.

Wow, can cops tell the news that info? isnt that like protected medical information? What about HIPAA laws and such? Then the news annouced that on national tv? Is that legal? I thought your medical information was private and not open for discussion? HIPAA experts chiime in. I would think this dude has a legal case?

Again this is a Med legal state so...

Hippa laws are federal laws that apply to people who have legitimate access to your medical records and info. The cops come to your house to check out a fire and you tell them your grow is legal and show them your paperwork. I don't think Hippa applies, although basic professional ethics should prevent them from discussing your personal info with the press. Just proves these cops are neither professional nor ethical.
