So having browsed quickly though the 'Aliens, yay or nay?' thread I've decided perhaps another thread should be opened on the topic because it's so damn interesting and because the original thread (+ rep to Hubbleman ) was unfortunately vague enough to spiral into a 105 page mess of conspiracy theories (some good, some bad), debunking of said theories (fun!) and other such things.

So what do you all think? Obviously it's exceedingly arrogant of us to assume that the entire universe is barren, however I would suggest that if intelligent life had evolved prior to our evolution, even as early as a few billion years ago, we would see evidence for its existence in our galaxy, if not the rest of the Virgo cluster simply due to the amount of time they would have had available to advance in technology and expand.

Forgive the mistake in the poll, obviously there ain't no intelligent life on earth...

I believe in the proliferation of life. So yes would be my answer.

I would posit that an advanced, intelligent race could have indeed existed a few billion years ago. There may be no proof because they may have gone extinct a billion years ago for all we know. Just a thought. :tiphat:

No intelligent life around here I'm afraid.
Just a bunch of hillbillies on meth.
