Intellidose dilution rates

I've been working all weekend on a spreadsheet that takes into account all my nutes I need thru veg and flower stages and their right proportions to dilute them. Once diluted the premixed nutes go into 5 gallon sealed buckets for the Intellidose to dispense either with solenoid vales or peristaltic pumps (I'll use the latter as these doses aren't that small and are more accurate not needing gravity flow + quicker to set up/calibrate).

Well here's my spreadsheet showing all my nutes and their amounts relative to the main nutrient that doses at 100%. The main dose sets for whatever seconds you choose and the smaller doses are calculated as a percentage of the main dose (which is the largest dose in ml). These are the doses from Dyna-Gro's charts for recirculating hydro, I just converted doses to proper dilution rates with water for dispensing for the Intellidose.

This is designed so the maintenence is a bi-weekly calibration of your pH & EC meters, topping off a tank or 2 every month, many tanks will go months on end without need to top off (just look at "Total gallons" compared to 5 gallon main nute tank). The Bloom nute tank will be 2-5gallon buckets connected as that will be used the most (last for 2 months instead of 1). PLUS your pH and EC reading will always be where you want them for weeks on end - even do res changes automatically (just have to time your rdwc circulation rate to every 3-5 minutes and dosing times to every 6-10 minutes and it will not overdose). Also hooked up to 2-55 gallon RO fresh water barrels that go to float valves in the res tanks, float switches to turn on/off circulation & top feed pumps too. Intellidose has a relay box option that helps you do res changes with your drain pump, even fresh water top offs too or if you want to flush your system (solenoid valve on fresh RO water line).

There are other systems that do auto dosing like Blue Lab Dosetronic but they are limited in outputs (2 nute tanks and 1 pH tank) and this is 1 instance where I like some one elss product over Bluelab (which is Intellidose). Growbot uses their own smaller tanks and can dose up to 8 tanks like Intellidose. There's even DIY PC controllers where you just add your own components like solenoid valves, pumps etc...

Anyone else use Intellidose or do auto dosing or pH control? I was just going for pH automation at first and realized all you have to do to fully automate is add the components for dispensing nutes (though not cheap that's for sure, each system is pushing $3,000 or more for each veg and flower room).

Here's the chart with the dilution rates I want to use which is 10:1 for veg and 5:1 for flower. To get a 5:1 dilution rate you mix 4 parts water with 1 part nutrient, giving you 5 parts total. This is located at "Main dilution ratio X:1" at bottom of spreadsheet. So to easily calculate I 1st dilute all the nutes relative to the "main" nute that's used the most at the highest dose and then do the 5:1 and 10:1 dilutions for all the nutes. As you see I can double the capacity of the nute tanks in veg by doubling up on the dilution rate from 10:1 to 20:1 as I'm still under the 5 gallon limit for nutes and water mixed.

Well realized diluting the nutrients 2x doesn't make them last longer in the storage buckets you have to add 2x the nutrients! So I made the correction and now in bottom spreadsheet cell to enter "Crop cycles to dose" for veg & flower. So I can customize how much nutes I want to store and for how long to store them for dispensing by the Intelligrow system. I could even do it for each nute too (have to modify spreadsheet a bit more).

I bought all the goodies to setup for automated ph control (Milwaukee mc122 and peristaltic pumps), but I haven't had time to set them up yet :moon:. Very interested to know how you setup the excel spreadsheet to calculate everything? Automation is one of my current interests where growing is concerned .

For all my nutes and dosing it's pretty simple once you know the basic ratios, then just multiply and divide. For pH it's recommended you dilute the final solution to be dosed to no more than 2%. “Acids and alkalis should be diluted to a maximum strength of 2% or less.” quoted from Intellidose, my bottle says 5% so that's easily done as I need to dilute my pH up & down quarts (about 5% acid or base) by 5:1 or even 10:1 anyway.

To put them in a spreadsheet, I just take the known usual dosing amounts in concentrate adjusted for 1 gallon of final nutrient solution I'm using. Whether it my veg station @ 23 gallons or flower @ 82 gallons I just put the gallons I have to get my total of each nute I need and for what ppm I want when they're all added.

The 1st spreadsheet is for the 1 gallon template I use and reference then to cells in the 2nd spreadsheet which I input 2 gallons for veg & flower systems instead of 1 gallon as in 1st spreadsheet. So cells in columns M thru R are referenced from cells in columns A:J which are straight off the Dyna-Gro .pdf. You could put in any NPK formulas and additives you like from A-Z. I'm just using Dyna-Gro right now but gives me flexibility to try a lot of other stuff... I have 2 organic additives I'd like to try myself to add trace minerals @ 50 ppm each.

Also for dosing pH it's customary to adjust pH in units of .1 per 50 ppm EC in your rdwc hydro solution. That will prevent overdose. In terms of time to check and re-dose I make sure my circulating system is circulating every 4-5 minutes so in 10 minute dosing the pump will not double dose checking every 10 minutes and adjusting.

When you are doing a res change, setting the dosing in 50 ppm & .1 pH increments makes sure you're not overdosing as well when only 1/8th or so of your res is filled. So if I have it set for 600 ppm my pH isn't overdosing when 1st refilling. Refilling your res your pH should go thru 12 dose cycles running 600 ppm if it's set right to dose every 50 ppm added.

Intellidose doses all the nutes based on 1 simple set default time of X seconds that you choose. I just dilute each and every nute enough so it's timed to dose equally at 100% default time setting with the main or most used nute.

Link to Dyna-Gro feeding schedule I put in my spreadsheets for dosing nutes (could be any formulas or additives that you want): Dyna-Gro feeding schedule - recirculating

Another note when I'm done with the template I could hide columns A:K it looks much nicer:
