Intake Help

G

Guest

...ok guys, I just built my c-24 and got it all setup and running...what do you guys think about this idea of intake : I want to use like a wire shelf to raise the plants, and put intakes on the bottom of the cab...and take off the front peice thing so air can get in there...does this sound good? any other ideas? and how do you lightproof an intake "vent" excluding 90* angles with PVC...

I keep reading about dark room vents in people's posts and they sound just perfect for cab grows. Do an online search for them.......don't think they are real expensive. By the looks of your pic I'd say 2 - 8 inch sq. ones would be perfect!

I use 8- 2 1/2" PVC with elbows on my c-25, mounted in the bottom, just like you described....except I didn't take the front off my cab...the air comes from the back where its already open.

Dude i've done the whole light trap thing with the 90 degree elbow garbage. Let me tell you i just installed two 8" dark room vents in my c25 and the squares are so easy to cut. Just trace the vent with a sharpie and drill a 1/2 hole in every corner. Then cut so that there is no sharpie remaining around the square. Screw the vent down and your done. The room you save with these things alone is worth the money. Not to mention saving yourself the headache of configuring your light trap. I got my 2 for adorama for about $45 dollars including shipping. If you only need 1 expect to pay about $30. Trust me i've done both and wish i would have done this first instead of being a cheap ass. :joint:

I am def. going with darkroom vents for sure, I think that PVC crap is just that...crap...I am just not too sure how I want the vents...on the side of cab, on the doors, on the floor...what do you guys think...my cab is in the corner so the back and one side of the cab are against the wall...

as long as you have an inch or so between the wall you'll get air into the cab i assume the purpose of the cab is stealth.ithink vents in the doors might draw attenion,so i'd put them on the back or side against the wall.the floor would work too,but then you would always have to have a shelf to raise everything off the floor, and there might come a day when you need every inch of head room.(jmo).

ya think if I put the vents on the side against the wall it will get good cool air flow though? I was thinking putting one on the side not against the wall, and one on the door...shit...this is the hardest part...

where di you get your darkroom vents from online for that price and these things do allow for good airflow right?

Hey dude.

I put my vents on the floor of a c25. I bought some shelf brackets and a wire shelf from lowe's. The brackets that mount on the back wall were the smallest they have. I also left the front kick off. Someone would have to get on their stomach and look under (really awkward) to notice anything. IMHO it's much more stealth than just putting the intakes in the back and also helps separate the distance b/w intake and exhaust. My shelf can be adjusted from like 2" off the floor to maybe a foot or so. I used 16" shelf brackets. This really is the way to go, for a little more expense you can improve airflow and not worry about light leaks from the vents at least and really have a professional looking cab. As soon as i either find my usb or buy another i'll post some pics, it looks real nice. :joint:

Well Killa.....

These guys have given you a lot of really good ideas!! :yummy:
I built my own cab from scratch & designed it with holes in the floor for ventilation. But, I found I didn't really have enough air flow into the box. So, I've got 3 small dark room vents on the way. In my case, I think I'll install one on each side & one in the back to get air in from all directions. Got the vents from Amazon......don't do that!!! Got charged up the waaazooo for shipping.
You'll just have to sit down & think about what your stealth considerations are & how to deal with that. ie. If you have a vent on an exposed side you can disguise it by putting an object in front of it.

Hope everyone helps ya to a satisfactory conclusion!!
Looks like ya got a nice little grow goin there!!

I use 4) 4" stove pipe vents with 90 elbows, I painted the insides a flat black no light leaks and temps in the cab are the same outside of cab, using a hydrofarm daystar ac hood and a 449cfm vortex fan all for about 20 bucks

damn dude...nice...I can't keep my cab any lower than 5 degrees above the bigger room temp...it's usually 80 in the room, and about 85 in the cab...but that is with the sensor at plant canopy level with no shade on it...but I got one of my darkroom vents in today...trying to figure out where to put the other one...hrmmm....any ideas...i don't want to move my cab away from the wall, that's why i don't really wanna put it on the other side like this one is...reason being is my ducting is all already nice and tapped and shit, so it'd be a major hassle...i was thinking on the opposite side door...i can take the door off and go cut it...

^^^^today's pic of the girls...just soakin it all in :joint:

I like the wire shelf, have you thought about the mounting bracket? It make it very sturdy and easy to adjust. Looking good k1llakr0n. I like the cab, if you can get away with the vent in the front(security) thats probably the best place for air flow from an A/C'd room. nice job.

what mounting brackets are you referring too? the ones on the back wall of your cab in the picture? I can't put them on the back wall because I have that weak cardboard backwall...but I just have eyelet screws screwed into the already predrilled holes running along the side that the shelf sits on and basically get's locked in because I turn on of the eyelet screws sideways to lock the shelf in... the front is like this -- then the back is like this | so the shelf doesn't slide around...LMK dude
