Inside Sun Lights

I have a 600 W HPS from InsideSun all ready to go when I set up. Does anyone have any experience or comments about the quality of the lights from that site?

Peace,

I bought one of their 400W econo lights and it was the worst purchase I ever made. The magnetic core wasnt even bolted down inside the ballast and it vibrated so bad you could hear it down the street. Def not good security.

Hope you didnt get the Econo-Light!

Oh no sir. As far as I know anyway. I bought a 600 W HPS light from them. I ran it for about a month to test it with normal plants and it seemed ok, but it IS the first HID I've ran. Thats why I was wondering, especially since I see all these really pimp looking setups in the Urban Grower videos.

Peace,

I've ordered the following kits through Inside Sun:

4 - 1K HPS
1 - 400W HPS
1 - 250W HPS

All of them have been great as far as reliability. Never had one quit on me.

BUT the only complaint I have is the noise, like CCronik mentioned. I had to go through a whole bunch of trouble to take care of the noise...

Reliable, yes. Quiet, no.

Just figured I'd let you know my experience!

do a search on inside sun here or ask an og refugee and then make a choice.
inside sun is not high on the reputation scale.

People can have different experiences with the same company, mine was a positive one. I ordered from them about 2 years ago now, and haven't ordered since.

When I ordered, everything went exactly as planned and the lights were exactly what I was expecting for $200 for a 1K HPS kit, which is dirt cheap.

TrustNoOne: What has Inside Sun been doing wrong? Ripping people off? Selling junk lights? Taking too long?

Let us know so we can avoid the shop if they've been doing something like this.

Thanks for the space, good luck!

Seems there's a range of opinions. I have one inside sun light that so far has worked fine. I don't plan on buying any more since I'm just going to goto the local hydro shop with a friend or just have a friend buy em for me. My next purchases are going to be Cool Sun XLs (with the 8 inch cooling opening in the reflector). Now obviously this is going to be a bit later haha. Thanks for everyone's .02!!

Peace,

cobain, in my opinion all of the above, but i am just one opinion here and if you will do a search you will find others that agree and disagree. in my opinion i find too many complaints to consider the guy a reputible seller and would rather spend my money with others that have few or no complaints.

and yes, i am one that was left with a bad taste which is why i suggested doing a search so as to form your own opinion. i was trying not to give my opinion as fact and flame the guy jsut for my bad experience.
you may have had a good purchase but if you do a search you may find others that have not had such good luck.
peace

A friend ordered the basic (not refurb) 250W HPS w/reflector a little less than a year ago and has had no problems whatsoever. His is in his cab and you cannot hear it.

Does anyone notice a difference in heat dissapation with different models of ballasts? Sorry, I hope i'm not stealing this thread - I figured it pertained to ballasts so I would ask it here. If I am out of line please let me know and I'll start a new thread.

The reason I ask is that I purchased a Sun Light 1000 watt HPS and noticed it gave off much more heat than the other ballasts I purchased. Then I recently purchased another 1000 watt HPS from my local hydroponic store here in town and it is a generic model. It gives off the most heat out of all my ballasts. It is so hot I can't even keep my hand on it for longer than a couple seconds without getting burns. The coolest model I have I can place my hand on indefinitely.

I asked the hydro store guy about it and he said they all give off the same heat, just some models don't seem to give off as much because of the way they are constructed, or the materials used. This makes a little sense as the coolest ballast I have is made out of aluminum and has a heat sink looking outer casing and the hottest model (generic) has only a small vent and is made of metal. But still I believe some ballasts give off more heat then others. Does anyone know if this is true or not, or am I just being fooled by physics?

What I would like to do is place each ballast seperately into a sealed box with a thermometer. Let the ballast run for a couple hours and then check the temperature. Do the same with all my ballasts and compare. This way I should be able to gauge which ballast is the most efficient. Just a thought - who knows if I will get around too it. If so I will make a thread, should be pretty interesting if I can get a hold of some popular models.

By the way, my Sun Light ballast has been great and doesn't give off nearly as much heat as some of the other I have. Any input would be great!
