Information about Mexico?

Hello all

I want to be a breeder and one fine goal of mine is to acquire land-races by my own means. The first of places I will be traveling is Mexico, b/c it is very close and I can manage with Spanish speakers (there's some languages that I'm just lost at). What I need to know is where to go, what to say, and who to talk to. If anyone is to help me out, it will be remembered very well. I plan to make this journey in 2 years (in one year if this one is abundant in savings). I will be searching for rare varieties that have been thought to be extinct, like Oaxaca Highland and do my best to preserve any rare land-race variety that is found by giving them to other select breeders. It is a personal dream of mine to make this excursion and to document my travels as a cannabis enthusiast and breeder to be. If anyone who resides in Mexico can offer hospitality in the future, please pm me. I understand the extreme rareness of these land-races due to the Mexican government, but please if you have any information as to where I should start looking, I am all eyes and ears. With dedication, perseverance, and money I know there is something to be found.

You better look hispanic cause otherwise all your going to look like is a walking bag of potential money. Great if you have an unlimited supply from which they can rob from you.. much more sucky when you get robbed and you have nothing to give them. Then they just kill you cause you pissed them off and wasted their time.

You arent going to find any mom and pop Gonzales all hippy friendly to north gringo tourists.. thats not who controls the MJ business in Mexico and you aint gonna find them in tourist friendly spots.

Then no offense but if I had a dime for every breeder that said their goals were to preserve landraces across the globe I would be beyond wealthy. If I had a billon dollars for any of them that were successful in preserving a landrace outside its native environment I would also be rich. Unfortunately thats how nature works, as soon as you remove a landrace strain from its natural environment you have begun its inevitable evolutionary change.

i know ive seen threads of peoples visits to oaxaca try pming those people if you can find the threads also try asking this question over at cannabiseye to considering they seem to work with alot of landraces and are very into strain preservation. how long do you plan on staying and collecting in mexico?

I understand all of the horrible things that can go wrong, I take this into full consideration. Here's the thing... I've always wanted to travel for a purpose, b/c I have a lot of love to share with the world, and this can be that purpose. I understand the difficulties, but no rose is without thorns. I have the youth, the abilities, and the mindset to make this possible. Allah has said, "Start moving so that I may start blessing." Don't take advice from people who haven't extensively traveled in Mexico. Armshair tourists are great for advice on cancun, but not for michoacan or oaxaca.

In oaxaca you need to head up in the mountains from puerto angel to a small village that is famous for shrooms to get some good buds or hash. Further down the mountain at the beach village of Zipolite you can also find some nice buds, but shop around for the best stuff, and check it out before you hand your money off to a runner to go get it. Zipolite is a good place to kick back for a month, or three just be careful of the surf it has an undertow.

In Michoacan you need to head to Maruata, a town south from manzanillo to get the best buds. It is a small local indian community that provides small cabanas on the beach and ganja to local mexican youths on holidays mostly. There are no hotels in this town, so bring a hammock or a tent to camp on the beach under the many cabanas.

Great advice.. provided you look hispanic like the original OP. Otherwise your advice is just going to get some naive white kid killed.

You dont have to believe any 'armchair tourist' to read the news about the 5,000 some murders in the last two years since Fox started his crackdown on drugs.

hmmm, been over a year in mexico and guatemala....never had a problem....don´t know why people often think that outside their countries you got for surley killed ?
a lot of dangers - but i think - everywhere

hey man, im down on the coast of oaxaca right now.. there is definitely some nice grass down here, but there is no way of knowing if they are really landrace strains.. i would be inclined to guess no.. as the growing here is a huge commodity and there are definitely growers that go for the dutch genetics to get different genetics and higher yields and whatnot, kind of sad, but i think its been going that way around the world for quite some time.
the best grass that i have found in central america was in northern guatemala (chichicastenango), have no idea if it was really a landrace, but it was definitely some killer sativa, (un)fortunately (depending on how you look at it!) there was not a single seed in the number of long buds i was given for ten bucks, so i couldnt grab any from it.
what supertoker said about north of puerto angel would be a good place to start if you have your heart set on southern mexico, but i would guess that you would have better luck finding unadulterated landraces further off the tourist track.
chiapas might also be worth checking out.
