First a big thanks to peeps who have helped me directly get some ideas for growing, and also to those who indirectly helped me, by helping provide the best online resource for cannabis growing I've ever seen. Credit where its due guys, your the best lot around and a lovely bunch at that
OK, I'm going to lay out my grow now, so that you can all see what I'm up to at long bloody last..
Right, the idea.
To start vegging some babies using CFL and then flower under HPS.
Simple really.
OK, the only seeds I had available were Northern Light seeds, straight from the Dam. I managed to germinate these all and put them in tiny pots until they started to push through the top soil, at which point they were transferred to larger 5-6" wide pots. I have some pics somewhere, so I'll post them up later (the fresh sprouts that is)
I seeded, potted using John Innes 1 and 2, and will final pot in 3... the mushroom compost farm near me has retired from business, so gutted there... Innes was fine for me when I grew outdoors, and no probs yet.
My setup at present consists of two large toy boxes upturned... both sprayed white on the inside, although the matt can I used was toilet, so I will be needing to respray when I find the time but the plants look OK so far. For the HPS I have a gas cylinder cabinet on order, which should let me fit 2x11.5" pots in and give at least 40-50cm of grow room, so I'll need to scrog, but it should be fine. That will have 120mm PC fans for better heat movement.. I am aware that the HPS is hot, so may build in a glass shelf like I've seen some LEGEND on here do
Toy box stats are only small;
17.5" x 11.5", and I have about 12" of grow room to play with at present.
I drilled 4 holes in the top of the upturned toy box, and fitted 4 CFL lights... 3x60w and 1x100w, totalling 280w of CFL. The plants are raised up on boxes and DVD's so that they were closer to the lights at the start, but even still there was a little stretching and needed to be within about 2"...
I fitted 2x80mm PC case fans which are running in parallel on a 12v AC DC converter. 1 in, 1 out...
Temps are between 75 and 85 at the most. I don't have a humidity monitor thingy yet, but may get one if its totally necessary. I have been watering as told... only when the first 1" or so of soil is dry, and they are fine at present.
I planted the seeds on the 15th October, they were on 24/7 light for 2 weeks, and have been on 18/6 since, until I decide to 12/12 them.
The plan is to let the 5 babies veg out until I can see who is a lady, and who is going to die very very quickly with some scissors. Once I have the ladies by themselves, I can put them under my HPS... I'm expecting to only maybe get around 2 ladies... but if I jam all 5, I will LST and scrog the other 3 in the toy box keeping them under the CFL's..
A question if I may before the pics!
1. I am not sure about the 'being able to tell if they are ladies during the veg' bit. I have a feeling that only once they are being flowered that I'll be able to tell whats what?? I've read bits here and there that it can take a week or more to see balls or pistels. I thought putting them on 18/6 would do the trick, but maybe not??
PS - I have the handles to tape up on the toy box (you may see them in the pics), so I'm aware that will need to be plugged up...
Right onto the pics. Any advice or anything, is much appreciated.. Sorry for possible incoherent post... I've just woken up and had some spare time to get this posted!
Plants are at 5.5" high in these pics, taken today..
(sorry for the links, imageshack was playing up)
