Played around with tubes and tape before and the results can be very good , picked up this set of rings at a boot fair for five pounds and they work well.

These are the automatic version allowing full use of the lens , same results can be had with plain rings used fully manual with a little patience.

This is the best the dreadfull kit lens can achieve , all images at max resolution.

The tubes get a hell of a lot closer , very shallow depth of field and close working distance are a little fiddly and really needs a tripod and rail , handheld a bit wobbly.

nice pics, but I don't like the sucker in the 5th pic.

btw what camera do you use to take pics through the lenses?

The fat mite is 50 micron long , dont mind a few and they avoid the blue parts on this cross and cause little damage , my job makes it very difficult to stay free for long.

Camera is a battered Canon 450 , had spent a fortune on their glass for 35mm bodies and they work perfectly on this series.

Will set up the bellows at the weekend with some decent glass and see what they can do.

These are marked Jessops , old photography retail chain in the UK , build quality is exceptional whoever made it and its proveing very usefull.

Only downside is the very close working distance and the inevitable stickey lense.

one day i will get a dslr but atleast i can sorta run with dslr with my macros......still trying to find a way to get a longer working distance but i dont know that much about photography..

i have some kenko extention tubes for my dslr, its a cool tool, but there hare other stuff that you can use to get macro, like reverse ring and a reverse mount, you can use both and achieve nice results, heres some using kenko tubes and a 50 mm f 1.4 :

About the limit of resolution with the kit lens , taken with a plain cardboard tube of the same length as the rings , temporarily glued in place.

Working distance of 15 - 20 mm is a bitch , finding most shots require manual focus due to low light levels , exposure works fine.

Found this is the best option for higher magnification and relatively inexpensive , see fleabay for 35mm bargains that are better than the modern equipment in most cases.

This gets to around 10x with conventional lens , 15x with reversed lens up front , and 30x or more with a microscope lens used.

Big problem lighting beyond 5x , and i dont like to use flash.

man. there close, but why so fuzzy? or blurry?
distinct lack of detail.....
i took photo in highschool and could probably bust out some black and whites of my cat more in focus.....

still look okay... put the lense on the camra... think ur box is getting things out of focus.

oh, and nikkon rules.
