industrial portable AC / Kwikool, Movincool

Hey all,

I think I may want to venture the way of sealed room using co2, uncooled lights, and lots of AC.

Mainly for simplicity..aircooled lights and sealed rooms dont get along without a lot of taping, hassle, etc. I'm not interested in mini-splits as I dont see my rooms being permenent and would like to move around alot. I want to be able to throw my buckets down, hang lights, roll in the AC and get things on their way.

My question.. I've been looking at these large (and pricey) industrial portable AC units. Some are vented (12") while others are simply water cooled. 12" vented would work in my current situation, but it'd be nice to have a water cooled unit..for a truly sealed room.

I'm in a city and pay for water consumption.
Would I be able to run one of these 30k BTU units without crazy water bills and more importantly excessive usage which may be noticed? I assume these units use large amounts of water..ran through the unit and sent down the drain?

I know I pay for my water as I get a water/sewer/trash bill and their is consumption noted (dont have one handy for rate)..however I've ran a cheap RO machine around the clock before and did not notice a rise in my bill.

Thanks

you need to write the company and ask how much water the units use , when you find out post cause Ive been wondering about it also.

I know the Kwikool unit 2.5 ton unit uses 2-7.5 Gallons per Minute depending on water inlet temperature.

Thats a lot of water.

a 5 ton uses 5 gallons a minute you need a lake or a well water bill would be in the 1000's per month

I see - look like thats out..

I'm still interested in these industrial spot coolers..now obviously one that vents its heat.

Does anyone know if these units like MovinCool, Topaz, or Kwikool can be used in a sealed room. In other words - I know they are vented - but are they removing grow room air? or is there another duct which brings in outside air?

Thanks

Made you need a well foresure or a pool.

But if moving is what you want then you are stuck. If you vent then it is not sealed.

And you CO2 IS gone I use my central a/c and have to returns to my air handler via flex that gets all the way in the air handler. I run CO2 this is my first run with this a/c will see how it works

But my next grow once I chopp I will get a swamp cooler like the ones in big walk in coolers.

Pricey but I found the inside unit for 1800.00 and that is a 5 ton. For the out side I have a 5 ton outside unit that someone gave me so my a/c guy will hook it up for me when am ready.

I don't think any one should use a air conditioner for grows sounds crazy but I got 3 ton mini and it did not cool my 5k so I chopped up the central a/c.

Fuck conditioning air that is what a a/c does I want a chiller.

The Kwikool units (air cooled) are designed so that there is no air exchange between the inside and outside air.
They are perfect for sealed rooms.
I have seen them in action and although they are pricey, they kick some ass.
All you need is a power outlet and air ducting.
I much prefer these to a mini split a/c.

I'm between one of the Excel air split systems and one of these kwikool units. Definitely a toss up.

The Kwikool units are simple to set up and easy to move.
The Excel units are much more involved.

I have (4) Excel Air 4 ton units. I loved them at 1st but now am looking into the new "Ice Boxes" from Hydro Innovations. They are basically water cooled radiators for your hoods. The problem for me is the amps needed for the ac systems. Each 4 ton ac units needs (2) 30 amp breakers. Instead I can run a 3 hp chiller off of (1) 30 amp breaker and cool the lights. That leaves the other 30 amp breaker to add 6000 more watts. I have depended on big ac's for years, but I think the water cooled technology is going to be the ticket now.

Can anyone shed some light on what kind of QuikKool they are running and how it is setup?
What sort of noise is it generating (high pitch low pitch) and how may decibels is it/what can you compare the sound to?

I'm considering purchasing an Air Cooled unit.
If I understand correctly the advantage to the Quikool units is that they don't use room air to cool the condenser inside the unit. Hence you are able to run them in a sealed room with input / output air from outside the room (+ no smell if you don't have stink outside of the room).

Does this sound right?

damn i want more info on portable units, but i don't need anything that big.. it would be for a 1000 in a concrete room that is exactly 4.5'x4.5'x10'..

depending on how thick it is.. the concrete room will insulate you very well. If you're only running a 1000 watt get an Air Cooled hood and vent it out of the room. Unless you live in 95 degree weather yous hould be able to grow year round with one of those shitty 12,000 btu portable jobs from home depot (or a window unit if you're in risk)

Those shitty portables are just that, shitty. They use a lot of power and don't work that well.
Do a search on portables here on icmag and you'll see for yourself.
Imo, a window unit works better, a mini split is even better...

SHITTY portables

SHITTY portables

Kwikool portables are a little different from most industrial portables in that the condenser is isolated from the conditioned space. The grow industry loves Kwikool Portables because the condensers have both the inlet and the outlet ductable. This means that inside air stays inside and outside air stays outside. Additionally, to rebuff the guest poster that called all portables "shitty". Kwikool uses only the highest quality parts such as motors and compressors from US manufacturers and Kwikool Portables are 100% made in america. In addition they come with fan cycling for lower outside ambient temperatures and internal high lift condensate pumps to get rid of the water. Need more info...you can contact Kwikool at 1-800-KWIKOOL
