I have a 4x8 space I want to grow in. How many plants can I stuff in there to maximize the yield.

I'll be using Black Dog LED PhytoMAX-2 400 LED. (Unless you say I need bigger)

Do SCROG, you can fit at least 6 using 5 gallon....or more! Sounds like a great plan!

Better to have two 400w LEDs.

I second that. You're going to need another one of those to flower a 32 square foot area! I could see you being able to pull 6lbs or more per harvest with a scrog setup and the right varietals.

Right-o! Three 400w LEDs would be ideal! Or two 600-800w.

If you don't already own them, or are getting them for a killer price, I'd look at other lights.

The amount of money they get for their lights are borderline ludicrous.

Ya. Expensive. I'm just looking for enough light, and I don't want to buy 2 sets. Those have two settings. One for veg, and one for flower. Feel free to offer up a suggestion for lights.

I was just looking at 60 gallon smart pots. I figure I could run 2 side by side and top the shit out of them. But that's the addict in me talking (more is always better). It would work, but the veg time would make it unproductive.

this is right on, you wont be space limited but 400w is not enough coverage for that many sq.ft
as long as your electrical can handle the load i would look at at least a 2x600w or like ab' said 3x400w (much better light dispersion)

We run all our gear w/ LED's. Don't like the veg/bloom settings. Good LED's can persevere without changing. It's just one more thing (switch) to crap out on you.

Yes, indeed!

Get good intensity LED's....that's the way to grow!

In that exact same sized space (4x8), I run 2 Timber 900 watt COB rigs. What they now call their Fatty VS.

I only have them turned up to 600 watts each though because that's all my ventilation will allow me to run while keeping the room cooled passively.

Eventually I'll get a mini split and be able to run them hotter.

I am very happy with them.

But I had nowhere near the options then as I do now-

Gavita 1700
Fluence Spyder
HLG's 600 watt kit (Which I also own in my tent and am very happy with)
ProGrowTech EV700 (very expensive light because of truly tunable spectrum)
BIOS Icarus (Former NASA engineers run this place)
SCYENCE Raging Kush (Really interesting lens pattern. The light is more intense on the boundaries instead of directly under the light.)

Not to mention the myriad of DIY and prebuilt COB options out there.

BUT

If I were to start all over again, I'd be hard pressed to not spend the money on the ProGorwTechs or DIY something similar with different temperature COBs. Being able to fine tune the light spectrum to match the growing phase is beyond what I know now. But I'm always learning.

Being a new indoor grower the one thing you need to be aware of when growing under LED lighting is that canopy management is crucial.
