Increasing the ozone output of ionizers?

Does anyone know if the circuitry used to power air ionizers could be harnessed more effectively to generate ozone by replacing the ionizer plate assembly with a traditional metal-glass-metal corona discharge tube?

AFAIK ionizers are designed to produce small amounts of ozone and large amounts of ions, while corona discharge ozone generators do the reverse. Ions are largely useless at eliminating odor. So if the ozone output of a small ionizer could be significantly increased they'd be an interesting option for the small-scale grower. A cheap 2W unit shouldn't have enough current to kill, either. Definitely not the case for many neon sign transformers...

Are you planning on using an ozone generator in the grow space? I wouldn't cause you'll most likely see a negative impact on your plants. If using to purify exhausted air I'd just go with a carbon filter. Negative ion generation, not ozone, is a cool thing and will promote plant growth/health...studies on that stuff prove it.

never seen an ionizer kill the smell of mj.maybe in a 1 by 1 grow area.you def dont want to use o3 in the g area.use it to clean up smells in hallways leading to front doors or around doors or leak areas.keep neg pressure in the grow area with a carbon filter running 24/7 in the room on a fan controller like the speedster.

I would do just as eye has already stated. I have found carbon scrubbers to be much more effective than anything else. If a large enough scrubber is used and negative pressure is being effectively accomplished then you should be able to kill all smell 100% even with the stinkiest of strains. Like kaljukajakas said, ozone emmiters can be effective and have their uses. The only way I have used ozone emitters in the past effectively was to hang over a door so when the room is opened the smell could be some what dissolved. Other than that it is carbon scrubbers all the way for me.
