I just read a post worthy of it's own thread
Silly question, but would the addition of an incandescent light or those ceramic heat emitting IR lamps for livestock be a step in the right direction to include more IR in a grow space?
I think of these as temporary solutions until I can definitively say to myself that I need to supplement with legit IR led. I currently have Red (630nm) and Deep Red (660nm), but I'm lacking IR.

This has been on my mind a while. The spectrum of an incandescent lamp is the best example of a heater used as a light. One we could all mimic. The ceramic heater would likely be better still, as it runs cooler. This wiki shows a colour verse temperature graph, in a fairly meaningful way https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incandescence

I had not thought about actual heaters, as lamps are so cheap and easy to play with. But now my mind turns to the actual heaters in our grow spaces. We don't see a radiator as a light, but our plants do. So some people must have areas of their room, beside radiators, performing differently, without having connected the issue. Stretching lots and flowering little? It's an area new to me.

It's interesting how efficient these old style lamps are at making radiation out of the band we measure for sight.

They peak around 1100, before trailing off as a slightly more steady rate than we see the graph climb.

I'm not sure how much use adding more high end red would be. I suspect a negative reaction, as foliage receives the message it's further in the shade. Thus, perhaps, not worth expending effort on. Instead, some stretching of the top might be more use to the plant. Here, I may actually be describing a reason LED plants eat so much N&P but don't want lots more K. The whole plant could be in grow mode, with little shade response.

It's not an area of interest for me, but it does spark the imagination.
