Personally I've only every been arrested once, and that wasn't even my fault (got 2 felony/1 misd. chgs) for possession with intent to deliver, and again wasn't even mine. That being said I just took a public defender because I was 18 at the time. Anyway, I hear a lot about people in this game 'having a lawyer on retainer', or 'having a lawyer'...what exactly does this constitute? Does this mean you pay a fee (whether it is monthly, yearly, i don't know..) or something and you have a lawyer whenever you need it?
I'm sure that when you're busted and you have to scurry around for a lawyer, you won't have time to research and find a reputable one in your area for a decent amount which leads to chaos in the courtroom. How does one do research to find a good lawyer if you don't know any personally who have dealt with growing-related charges? I think NORML has some stuff on their page about lawyers, but is that the only option? Should you contact any lawyer? Those who have went through this in the past, chime in. I'm in PA, where the laws are fairly harsh.
And I'm also guessing it's good to possibly keep an id card in your wallet with names and numbers of lawyers in the event that you are in fact one day busted?
