In-Line Fan --> Elicent

Hey everyone,
Im setting up my grow room, and i have been to another grow forum for a bit, and looking around here at the wealth of knowledge.
The last thing i need is a inline fan. I looked around in my city, and found that alot of grow shops recommend elicent fans.
I then asked on the other forum if they are any good/quiet, and the guy who own the forum as well as sells equipment says they are horrible... loud exspecially.

Are they really that loud? Quiet is good for me, however a bit noise is ok... stealth is important though.

Also heard elicent is the best because it was the original and best built.

Im getting the 6" 309CFM Elicent fan with a 6" Mountain Air Carbon Filter.
Heard that Mountain Air is good so im going with that.
What do you think about the fan?

Thanks everyone,

Faran :joint:

Hi Faran,

The 6" elicent inline fan is the exact one I bought from https://www.globalgrow.com/

It's worked flawlessly since I plugged it in, even after it fell 2.5' to the ground in full speed.
As for the noise....it's as quiet as it can get considering how much air it moves! To be honest, I can't hear a motor running nor the spinning wheel (what moves the air)...just air.

Highly recommend the unit.

Hey jc smooth,
Thanks, that helps me alot in deciding. I heard their really good quality. The store owner has one running since 30 years.
The sound of the moving air doesnt really matter, its in a storage area.
For air intake i cut 4x 6" holes, to which i will add a bit of ducting (somewhat lightproof).

At Mackawber, what i have hear is that the S+P are very quiet, but these are only manufactured in 220V.
I also heard that Vortex are very quiet, and give off no vibrations as well. They also supply a 10 year warranty. Id probably get one of these if they were sold around here.
About the other fans im not sure, havent heard anything decisive about them.

Hey Faran, I've been running the same fan that you're considering and love it. Great quality, really powerful. I've got it sucking through a DIY C scrubber and have 0 smell problems.

It's not noisy, but you can hear it.

I dont know.. $170 for a 6" that pulls only 152 CFM? I would think for that price you could get a more powerful fan. Vortex fans are more powerful for the price I think. 200+CFM from what Ive read?

(pricing gotten from suggested site: http://www.globalgrow.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=233 )

Maybe they are overpricing their stock? They also sell this automatic trimmer:

For $13,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What the HELL!?

Heck yeah JCSmooth. I have a 4 inch fan and looking to get a 6 would never buy anything but Elicent. 170 for a 6 inch is a good price. My local shop is like 250 for a 6 inch

Mac: the Elicent 4 inch is the quietest. By far. Just might have to pay a little more

The Vortex Im looking at is average of $200 for a 6" but also has a CFM rating of 449CFM. Im wondering in what ways the Elicent beats out a Vortex.

Im curious about all of this too as I will be purchasing one in 2 months and would like to do all of my research now instead of a day or two leading up to such a major (major for me, since I'm a broke ass motherfather) investment.

I plan on standardizing all ducting to 6", including the DIY can scrubber I plan on constructing as well as the muffler.

At 152 CFM, will it be enough for this setup:
(Up to 24" Can Scrubber (1/2 to 1" charcoal wall)) >> (400W HPS Bake-A-Round Cooltube) >> (Fan Unit) >> (Muffler)

And would the vortex CFM rating be overkill for this? How about the Vortex pulling on 1 scrubber and 2 cooltubes?

^^yeah, don't mess with the models that end in "A" if you're trying to get the most bang for the buck. I've been running an 8" Elicent (AXC200B) for 2 years now and it works flawlessly and moves some crazy air. The only noise you'll hear is the whooshing of the air...the motor is basically silent. The vortex fans are great also and as mentioned above include a 10yr warrantee, so which ever is cheaper/more available of the two is what I'd get.

BTW Mackawber, daytons (which aren't inlines) are the loudest and most inefficient fans out there for the work they do...they'll get the job done, but they also suck down massive electricity compared to inlines. I have since retired my dayton 265's since purchasing the elicent.

I ordered my 6" Vortex from there, they are the cheapest place you can get them. Mdhydro is also about the same price, I think like $10 more. I've heard good things about Elicent, Fantech, Canfan, Vortex, and a few other inline fans but I went with the Vortex in the end because of the 10 year warranty, which I believe is by far the longest.

FYI: The 6" elicent is not 150 or whatever rating you had in an above post. That must be for their 4". The 6" is rated at 309 cfm

What's the size of your closet? This is another big determining factor, but more than likely, 152 will not be sufficient if you're using a 400W (I'd think your room is in a 3X3 foot floor?).
It's hard to "overkill" on your fan, as most people use a speed controller to turn the unit down. To move the same amount of air, a larger fan needs to run at a slower speed than a smaller fan, and because there's less "force" being used, there will be less noise.

Hopefully that makes sense.
Good luck with the purchase,
JC

You are correct as in it will be 3'x3' cab. Also, do you suppose there is any advantage in installing a booster fan on top of the scrubber to push pull air FROM the scrubber and up through the ducting towards the exhaust fan?

Also, with ~300-400cfm, do you suppose 2 6" passive intake ports would be enough? I would imagine it would be, yes?

Well, i have a 3x5x5 room and ill be using a 309 CFM fan. I made 4 6" holes for passive intake. Someone once told me that you should have 4-5 being the same size as the intake of the fan.
Im not sure if thats right or not though.

Whoa, that's a LOT of passive induction! Where do you place your holes? On the side by the bottom or on the floor? In the cab I plan, Im wanting to make it in the floor but since the cab will be resting on a frame that''s 4 2x4's in a box formation with a floor on top of it, I don't see how air would reach inside of it to get to the floor. I may have to put the intake(s) in the wall, which I really don't want to do since I want to block light as good as possible.
