In a dog attack, do you stand a chance?

What do you think? If attacked by a large dog (or medium sized dog), do you think a regular person stands a chance? I've heard many opinions on this. When was the last time you've heard of a dog killing a grown, healthy adult male 1 on 1? Usually it is women and children. What would you personally do to ensure survival in this situation if you had no weapon? Rear naked choke?

I saw my dog try to chase and passers by,once time he chased a neighbor down the street and nipped him just bit.Once i came outside to 4 kids standing completly still like statues .With my dog circling them like he won the game.

He was a pittbull friendly by most accounts, but territorial, and the one time he nipped the one neighbor ,i got rid of him .

Yes you do stand a chance but only if you control the head. If the dog is intent on the attack you will have to kill him with your hands/arms controlling the head/throat tightly and body weight focused on the rib cage. It's not pretty. It's not macho. It is you or him. Many wild dogs where I'm originally from.

I've had big dogs all my life and I always wrestled with them, all dogs react pretty much the same to stuff, I'm not going to go into some ridiculous attempt to give a move by move description of how to fight a dog, but I think I could come out of it on top, with a few bites, but alive.

A regular person against a large breed g/dane rottie or akita would be best to try and beat the dog to death with the arm it's just ripped off you...

Anyone remember the pics of the guy who tried to rob a growers plants and his 2 pitts killed him?
If I remember correctly he tried to kill one of the dogs by hitting it over the head with an iron bar.....he succeeded in pissing off the dog even more.

Yes, that's the thing people don't fully grasp. You CANNOT kick an incoming dog. He WILL get to you first and once he is on you, you're fucked. You can go for the eyes, you can try to go for his throat, meanwhile he will be tearing you to pieces. Dogs are fast and viscious when they are in that mode.

Best thing would probably be to use your weight to get it to the ground and choke it from behind with your legs keeping him from coming up. You can't fight a dog like a person because they just get more pissed off. Best to just get a good blood choke on it. That way he doesn't suffer any permanent damage.

Most wild dogs out here weigh much less than a grown man. Only the mothers with pups would probably come after you. Or they would come as a pack if they were hungry. If a pack's after you the best you can hope for is to scare them away... you'd be lunch.

I would not want to go up against my dog. Not sure who would win but I think she would mess me up pretty good if she wanted to.

Besides trained killer cop dogs I think I would do fine. Now it isn't the cop dog that scares me but rather his partner with a gun who will odds are shoot me if I ever took a swing at his dog.

Never worried about dog attack scenarios and more focused on people with weapons or multi person assault scenarios.

meny yrs ago when i was a young teen (14 ish ) me and a friend was chased by a police dog here in the uk ( i wont say what we were up to lol ) i was lucky i climbed onto a wall but my mate was too short around 5ft so he cudnt . the dog went up on its back legs to bite my mates arm to bring him to the ground and my mate grabbed each of the dogs front legs and pulled them wide apart . no idea what it did to the dog but it was down n not moving .

Sounds like it either breaks the rib cage or the front legs out of place. At least i would imagine so, considering the anatomy of four legged animals...

Regardless of anything dogs are fast, and once they get a hold of you logical thinking becomes irrelevant. You do what you think/trained to do in the moment. If i could manage to do it while being attacked I would try to grab at its throat as hard as i possibly could. Although that front leg thing sounds like a good idea...
