improving my grow room

I am looking at improving my grow. I run a 1000w hps with anywhere from 7-10 plants in soil inside of a fairly big closet. I have an intake at the bottom, and exhaust at the top of the closet. with a portable AC unit on the other side of the room.

odor.

I have been looking around at getting a carbon air scrubber, I really suck at building things and making my own stuff. its always a painful experience and usually doesnt work. Is it really worth spending about $340 dollars on one of these? http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=46109. Right now i use a stanley blower connected to a carbon air scrubber I bought off ebay but I dont think the blower is strong enough to do much. I can still smell the odor very strong outside the room.

Does ona gel work? Thinking about buying some and placing it on some intake/exhaust spots.

Co2

I dont really want to use those propane burners or whatever to create co2, But how much would something like this be? is that a decent price for a co2 injector? Is this any worse or better then a different co2 system? how much would co2 tanks cost to rent? How would a AC unit affect the co2?

That scrubber/fan combo should be plenty for a 1k closet.

Never tried ONA, but it's definitely better suited for sealed environments.

That bottle/timer is gonna be a waste unless you can control the environment 100% of the time and keep the enriched air in the room for long periods of time (if not 100% of the time). That means you'll also need a window or mini-split AC (not portable), dehum, & a controller...which adds about $800 to the cost.

ah ok, thanks for the help. I plan on buying the scrubber/fan when this harvest is done. Does anyone know if that fan comes with a cord attached already?

Heya. I know what ONA smells like which is probably why I've never used it. Too strong IMO and I always wondered if using additional fragrance would burn up my carbon filter more quickly. I presume it clogs the channels just like any other odor.

recirculating filters need to be either be 2x larger w/ a medium fan or add a 50% more powerful fan to a smaller filter for in-room usage. The standard 0.1 contact time used for exhaust isn't the same for in-room. They actually suggest using a more powerful fan if you look at the can-fan label for in-room.

I've found an easy solution to cover up additional odors and for in-room usage... Damp-rid hangar bags. They sell at discount warehouses for about 6 dollars for 3-pack. They have strong performance for about two weeks then taper off... It has a subtle fresh odor so, it's a lil easier on the schnoz.

does anyone know where i can buy a carbon filter/fan bundle? I was going to order the one from htgsupply but it appears it has no cord attached. when i first started growing i had some bad experiences with the whole wiring stuff myself.

whoah! i've used vortex brand alot, and have a vortex filter atm too (1st time). i'd buy a filter from ebay, better quality than hand made, sturdy, prefilled and hassle free, and not x4 as expensive as it should be to buy a hydro one. i got a combo deal or i wouldn't pay retail for a carbon filter, waaaaay too much mark up.

ebay has carbon filters, i watched a bunch before i picked up my set of gear. one guy, makes filters, rubbermaids with smaller filters outside them (dryers) all kinds of stuff like that. 140 bucks will get you like decent 6" by 24" length sized filter, theres varying sizes...

foothill filters thats the name on ebay.

oh yeah, i've built my own too, they work fine as well. it's a mark-up issue, they're all basically the same. these will work too, judging by all the positive feedback and that it's the same simple base design.

With only 7 or 8 flowering plants,I'd consider the optimum 4000 by vaportek, its not 100% odor control but I havent been able to smell it outside the bldg since I started using one and I flower a couple dozen plants at least normally.

definately get aca5rbin filter...they do work...surprisingly so..i couldnt believ the difference the 1st time i got one...i was growing cheese at a freinds house and the reek was coming up through his floor into the house(basement grow).. got the filte ad fitted it and went home-went back next day and there was no smell at ll until i entered the grow itself...nothing at all around the inside or outside of the house. when they get old they start to let a bit of smell out but for the most part carbon is very effective...
a few plyug ins round ur house for good measure cant hurt either.....

I run about the same number of flowering plants as you, with about 10 mothers and 10-20 vegging plants constantly and I use the vaportek optimum 4000. Even my girl was extremely impressed with the results, very clean smell and absolutely no plant ordor outside of the closet. Small and effective, doesnt take up alot of space, about the size of a carton of cigarettes.

Best of luck
