I'm new to "lawyers'

Is there special lawyers that deal with "Growers" and "Trafficing" if one gets caught and charged? Where can I look for one of these people? Word of mouth? Yellowpages?

Just incase shit hits the fan I'd like to make a list of people that can help me. Just looking ahead.

I'm not saying I'm a dealer either but I heard if you have a certain ammount you are considered a trafficer.

norml.org should have a list of "pot" lawyers for your state.

The particular type of lawyer is a crimminal lawyer.. Before you pick a lawyer from NORML make sure you visit with him. Some lawyers that people find in Hightimes or NORML are to loud in court.. Some of them are only worried about making a statement and not on your defense. As a word of advise, if you are considering growing or dealing or trafficing, see a lawyer and pay a retainer.. This will help you when the police freeze all your assets after an arrest. It's good to just have a lawyer already paid just in case.. Frequent meetings and actual descussions on strategy's for your defense are also a good idea. Don't just pick a lawyer who says that he can get charges dismissed.. Pick the lawyer who explains to you the strategy that he will try in court. Another important thing I can advise is, get involved with your defense! Go read about your states laws and penalties. Don't just leave everything up to the lawyer, if you have an idea or a question bring it to his attention and get his opinion. Hope i've helped, take it easy.

^What this guy said. A lawyer from Norml might not have the same relationships and connections that other lawyers in your area might have. This is about a plea bargain. You want a guy who's familiar with the District Attorneys that are bringing the charges against you.

When/if you go to jail, people in there will give you the best recommendations. I had people coming up to me telling me who the best lawyer was...and telling me what charges the lawyer had dropped for them. I didn't even ask them, they just offered the information. I guess they just saw me and were like, "this white boy looks like he may be in some trouble, i better help him out"

Funny thing was that they all gave me the same name. Just sometimes they would offer two names instead of the one.

I went on their recommendation and was very happy with the results. Just so you know what my situation was: I was charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing marijuana (along with intent to distribute and a shitload of other stuff).

when i got busted in '99 in nevada i asked marc emery if he knew of any help for me and directed me to a great lawyer...i recommend asking him, especially if you're in canada. i know how many people feel about the guy but he does have the contacts and knowledge of many people that can help and he sure helped me when NORML and anyone else offered me little more than a, "good luck". he's usually not hard to track down...

So how exactly does this retainer thing work? Do you just call up the lawyer you want and tell him you want to put him on retainer and then take him some money? How much money is normally required to get a lawyer on retainer? Also lets say you had a spouse that would need a lawyer to if something were to go down,would the retainer cover you and your spouse or would you need to give a seperate retainer to the same lawyer? I am in a state with pretty decent laws when it comes to cultivation i also always keep it under 20 plants but i would like to be prepared for the worst.
