Illustrated step by step spot pollination

So I'm going to split this thread into subthreads so that the photos appear in order of events. It's day 43 of flowering of my Johnny Blaze x Chemdawg D female and I decided to take a chance and spot pollinate with some pollen from one of the males product of the same cross. Since she has 34 days to go on the far end I guess it is still feasible to get mature seeds by giving the pollinated branches couple of more days to hang and harvest the rest earlier if needed.
The first step was to prepare a labeled sandwich bag and collect pollen from a branch with open pollen sacs, by sticking the branch, pollen sacs first, into the bag and shaking and turning vigorously while keeping as much of the bag's seal closed.Use a piece of paper on top of your working area to catch any falling pollen and transfer the pollen from the paper to the bag.

Step 3

Step 3

Since I planned in using the pollen almost immediately I skipped the whole desiccator part but you could put the ziploc inside a bigger ziploc and throw in one of those sachets that comes in a brand new shoe box to prevent humidity buildup. Make sure both bags are zipped and put it in a low humidity section of your fridge or freezer.
Next I chose which branch/es I wanted to spot pollinate. I took advice from a forum member, yee-haw!, and selected from the bottom which I think works good when you want to harvest most of your plant since but still produce a small quantity of seeds. With my branches selected and my pollen collected I proceeded to pollinate. I carefully open the zip on the bag and inserted the tip of the branch.Making sure the tip reaches the bottom of the bag I fit any fan leaves inside in order to find a part of the branch where I could zip the bag as much as possible. You can also press with your fingers where the branch meets the zip in order to avoid any pollen from coming blowing out. At this point I shook the for a few minutes in order to get the bud sites to make contacts with any pollen on the walls of the bag. I let the bag sit still while covering the branch for a few minutes and then I proceeded to remove in a gentle manner as to to prevent any pollen that got stuck to leaves from flying away.I dipped my hand in a bucket of water and made sure to rub both top and bottom of each fan leaf, small non-sugary leaves and the naked portions of the branch to insure that any pollen not stuck to the stigmas and trichomes didn't end up in the rest of my buds. Finally I attached a tag with a label to identify to whom did the pollen used belonged to. I hope it works and I hope you found this helpful.
