Springfield Lobby Day to support House Bill 30, the medical cannabis bill. Capitol Building, Springfield, 9:30 AM, (volunteers needed!)

Legislation that seeks to legalize the physician-supervised use of medical cannabis is on hold until legislators return to Springfield in November for the fall veto session.

House Bill 30, the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, allows qualified patients to possess and grow cannabis for medical purposes. Please contact your State Representative and State Senator and urge them to pass this much needed legislation as soon as possible. By calling 217-782-2000 the state directory operators will be able to connect you to your legislators’ offices. Please let us know what responses you get from these lawmakers. If you can setup an appointment to meet with them in person that is even better.

In the previous session, similar legislation was approved by the Senate but was narrowly defeated by the House.

Eighteen states – Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington — and the District of Columbia have enacted laws protecting medical cannabis patients from state prosecution. There is no legitimate reason why Illinois patients should not enjoy these same legal protections.

Contact your state House member and tell them to support HB 30 by visiting NORML’s ‘Take Action’ Center here:

Isn't is funny how all of this is slowly moving forward when Illinois is sinking further and further into debt? Are Illinois politicians finally realizing the tax money they could potentially gain from MJ?

There are a few things that sound screwed up with HB30.

"Prohibits a qualified patient from operating a motor vehicle unless 12 hours have passed since the patient last consumed medical cannabis."

Also I "think" they consider a plant mature at 12 inches.

Well the bill didn't have enough votes to pass so the sponser of said bill set up another vote for early next year.I think 9 votes shy.
I'm sure that Jack ass mark Kirk has something to do with it..he tried to pass the kush law a few years ago...basically if you were busted with a # of highgrade cannabis you'd get 20 years mandatory. Needless to say the bill didn't pass.
Anyways hb30 was a good bill in the beginning.you could grow 6plants and have a certain amount of bud on hand..but each time hb30 went up for a vote more restrictions were attached.
now you can't grow, there's a specific list of ailments you must have..30 of them.
1 grow op per county..the license for this is 25000k.
And now the brainiacs in Springfield want this company..medponics..to monitor everything.
Idk man..I think I'll just keep on doing my own thing.
But I do believe this hb30 would be good for seriously ill illinoisis's who can't grow.
I hope it passes for them.

Illinois will be the last state in the country to legalize, decriminalize, or allow medical.
Since 1980 they have had the best mmj legislation in the country already on the books.d
The police and prison unions are so strong in that state they will fight to the bitter end to keep things from changing.
Think about the teacher strike this summer. The chicago teachers union are a good example of how little the machine cares for actual human beings.
Even if they pass some bullshit med thing you would have to be a total fucking retard to sign up in Illinois unless you want everything you own taken from you.
I am sorry to be so negative, this is the reality of Illinois.
Don't be a fool.

Where did you read this nine votes shy information and that the vote was rescheduled for next year? Two sources I read said that the vote was rescheduled for next week but has the possibility of an voting extention until January 8.

The sponser of hb30 realized he was short votes..9.
So he decided to wait till next year to call it up..
More restrictions,rules,regulations..will be added..to appease the red down state yokles..
And if this does pass..well I'm not impressed..worst MMJ law ever.

Pathetic ..

the people of Il need to over run their leaders

you have the most crime ridden government body in the US, and that says a lot, I mean look at your Governors

Crime rules Il, and it is like a virus spreading. I grew up off I-90, in a town that had no crime when I grew up. Funny how shit flows along the interstate highways. Coke is the $$$ maker back there, and it has destroyed way too many people for them to bother locking up stoners.

"If somebody got stopped by the police, and said, ‘Oh, I'm using -- this is medical marijuana,' you could actually test it and find out whether it was true medical marijuana grown here at one of the facilities, or whether it was not in fact medical marijuana," explains Cross." "true medical marijuana' as if they would know.

Their reasoning : The current legislation sponsored by Skokie Democrat Lou Lang would grant licenses to as many as 59 marijuana growers across the state. Supporters claim that having dozens of small growers, instead of one or a handful of very large pot producers, would avoid the clashes with federal agents that have occurred in other states.

"Every time that somebody has tried to do one of these large growing operations, the federal government has come in and has threatened either the landlords and the property owners with not only arrest but also asset forfeiture," says Dann Linn, the Executive Director for Illinois NORML.

Its a better than 'what about the childrean' but still, its obviously unnecessary and a sneaky excuse to center and monopolize it all. Should this pass ? It probably stands a good chance given all of these perks for the suits to jerk off to.
