If you had the growing space, would you get more into breeding?

It seems everyone enjoys making thier own crosses and creating new strains. Some have the space and some don't. For example a grower like me can only grow a few plants at a time so it's hard to make the right choices in phenos to select for breeding. All I can do it select the best plants and make more seeds, and save mother plants for clones. I know if I had the space I would really get into breeding. I think it would be awesome to grow out hundreds of plants and just select the best ones. Maybe one day I'll be able to grow alot of plants. If you had the space to grow lots of plants, would you take breeding serious and actually do some real work? and really work hard to make new strains to improve and add more fine genetics to the world of cannabis growing. I know I would. I got lots of strains to work with and plan on getting more. Hopefully one day I can work with them like I want to.

I think breeding would have to be in the 1000's of plants. From seed, this would be a shitload of work. Seems like you need to devote your self 100%. I woudlnt mind being a smoke tester though. :D

Hundreds, thousands, whatever. If I had the space I would devote myself.

Yeah that would be cool...Imagine having to care for thousands of plants though! Wowzers. I wish there was a way to do that and get paid handsomely for it...

you can breed on a small scale VERY effectivly as a "hobby breeder" .

I have never had more than 11 plants in flower and maybe 20 in veg at any 1 time.

if u have 1 or 2 moms you can polinate clones of the moms w/ boys from good genetics that u buy or get somehow.

u can easily make f2's and crosses what ever u want. (when I make seeds I "selectivly polinate" by just polinating a few budsites then I dont have tons of seeds)

even willy-nilly crosses have big potential....u may have to search harder for a good pheno tho.

I'm a cabinet grower and I have done some successful breeding w/ only 2 cabinets...u just have to time it right if are "flowering/keeping a male" or if u are "vegging clones" w/ the non-flower cab. (hope that made sense) ...a 3rd cab would be ideal...something real small w/ just 70 watts hps would be perfect to just have as a "male flower cab"

maybe that helps some?

When I get a house I might be able to grow more then a few plants but I'm going to be living in an apartment until at least next summer. It's kind of hard to pull off alot of plants in an apt. I'll probally have about 6 to 8 bonsai mums under a shoplight for my clone selection. I'll flower out 4 clones under a 250 watt HPS (rotating 2 per month). This way I can grow alot of strains in a small time frame. I want to sample all my strains before I start choosing what I want to work with. I'm simply just going to select the best female of each strain I grow and make her a bonsai mum. I already have two to start with. When I bud some clones out off of them then I'll simply just pick the best mums and go from there. I'll probally pollinate a few clones of choosen mums to get more seeds, if I find a nice male. I need to make more seed stock anyways so I'll have it for the future. I would reject the others and maybe just yank them or put them outdoors somewhere when summer comes. I plan on taking the summer month off anyways. Then when fall comes around I'll simply just start with a whole new set of strains and continue my process. It's going to take years to get through my whole stock so I'm definetly ready to get started. If everthing goes right then I'll be starting up this October.

i would like a 200ft x 50ft greenhouse for my breeding work. but hell it aint going to happen, you can still get just as good of plants with less numbers per run, you jusdt have to run the same generation a few times to make sure you got the right one.

1 x male > 12/12 bag on/off method
1 x Q-tip (cotton bud)
1 x lateral nugget, 4 weeks prior to harvest

me = average 60 seeds per gram of bud
let em dry @ room temp for 4 month
throw away the white ones
germ rate to date = 100%

yea I would like to do a project some day with a bit more space. 50 plants would be enough for a semi serious project (assuming using already worked strains) landraces you would need more at least in the initial crosses. the F2 (f3 to an extent) generation is most important as far as numbers go.

I am interested in tissue culture as a method of preserving genetics instead of keeping mothers/fathers. this would help a lot of people get into breeding on a smaller scale as less plants would be needed. Prob is you need the right equipment and its a bit tricky.
