if you own a wall mount fan, i want your opinions on this issue. So instead of mounting it on the wall somewhere, can i just mount it upside down on the ceiling...? Im just worried it wont work, cus i once hooked up a small floor oscillating fan (not wall mount, but same size) upside down and it broke off from the neck after a few months of use. The neck area of the wall mount fans i have, look very similar to the floor model that broke on me.... Any input on this anyone....? I have seen the ceiling mount osc. fans like these, but they are more expensive and i have already purchase wall mount.

Just put one up last night and in the instruction manual I noticed it says not to mount at an angle or on a ceiling. That is an oscillating fan mind you, so it might have something to do with the pivot joint having too much pressure on it when mounted at angles like you want.

Seems like way too much for a wall fan. Eco-Plus sells them for more than half, though that is the fan I referenced in my previous post, that is not supposed to mounted on a ceiling or at an angle. You can adjust the "head" at a downward angle on that fan, such that the plants directly below the fan are the only ones not being hit directly by the breeze.

For the ceiling, might as well get a ceiling fan? I love the EcoPlus fans, they're the business! Much better value than AirKing's, and IMO the 16" EcoPlus works muuuuuuuch better than the 12" AirKing which costs 2x+ more.

Badugi, Im using the active air ones. So are you saying that you mount your ecoplus fans on the ceiling? Or does ecoplus make a fan specific for ceiling mount...?

Im tellin ya, ive searched everywhere, and the only 16" ceiling mount fans that i found under 100 bucks is these http://www.rewci.com/recooscefan.html
(the same fan as i posted a link to before)

I guess ill just have to order some. They are remote controlled so thats pretty cool feature.

I don't mount the EcoPlus fans on the ceiling, but it'd be possible with an additional two steps: secure the bottom from sliding out, and lock the pivoting neck.

Why can't you just get a bedroom / general purpose ceiling fan from Home Depot?

You mean like the ones with the wooden blades that people have in their living room/dining room...? If so, there is already one in the room, i was gonna take it down tho cuz it wont move as much air as i want to give the plants. However they do make oscillating ceiling mount fans, but no smaller than like 20" and no less than like 200 bucks!! And they hang down like 3feet from where they are mounted.

I also dont wanna lock the pivot on the fan, cuz then it wont oscillate, causing wind burn and uneven air distribution.

Plus by having the fans on the ceiling, they are out of the way, unlike pedestal fans. I cant believe the windchaser fans, are the only ones that are under 18" that are mountable on the wall and oscillating!! If anyone finds any others that meet those qualifications please chime in. thx

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the average profile of the wall mount fans such as lasko. I have a small 2.5x2.5 ft grow area, and want to mount a fan on the wall if possible, but i'm afraid they will stick out so far it will make a drastic decrease in my overall space to grow. I have bushy ass LST'd plants in flower and i want the canopy to get more air flow to prevent mold.
thanks!

If you have a 2.5' x 2.5' area, why bother with a wall-mount fan? Get yourself a little clip-on fan and call it a day.

i've been looking for a small one but no dice. just gonna rig up some computer fans to hit the canopy, figure four of em should do the job nicely.

Wouldn't it be easier to go to Wal-Mart or order one from the Internet rather than trying to ghetto-rig a DC transformer to power the little "PC fans"?
