If a seed opens up, is it a given that it will sprout?

Noob here. I tried germinating a pair of seeds and threw them away after about 5 days thinking they were no good. I read up a little on here and i'm trying again with an individual seed from the same batch. I have it in a tupperware with damp paper towels and a thermometer that indicates a range of 74 - 81 fahrenheit.

I could see the whitish root after the seed broke open after 2 - 3 days and has sort of stayed the same the following 3 days.

So, after 6 days of germinating, my question is: if the seed has opened, is it a fact that it will eventually sprout? Or could it have gone bad somehow?

Thanks for your responses.

Sometimes they fizzle out and die. Nothing is guaranteed, especially if using older seed stock. Most however do just fine once open

put it in soil with the same heat source, wet the soil, plant about half inch, imo you will do better if the seeds viable, put under light as soon as you notice it up.good luck.

I just went through over 20 that I'd been keeping for over a year now. Almost all of them opened and stuck out a little tail, but nothing more. A few almost pushed up, but then fizzled. I waited out most for several weeks before throwing them away.

just tried germing 4 seeds, 3 in jiffy pots and 1 in rockwool, i just soaked them for 12 hours then put them in their homes

it took like 7 days for them to pop out of the soil, well it did for 3 of them, i waited another 4 days on the unpopped one (the one in rockwool, you could see roots at the bottom but had not popped out the top) and then dug it out, seems like it got stuck trying to work its way out of the rockwool and was starting to rot :(

so i guess it pays to wait a week or even 2, but after that i think you can safely give up
