Ideal setup......

Can someone please point me in the right direction. I'm looking for an ideal setup for a 32x32x63 grow tent. Don't really need a scrubber, as it'll be exhausting thru a roof and outside. This is my first tent and I'm not exactly sure how to set it up correctly. I'll be using a 400w MH/HPS cool tube and more than likely an 8" online fan?????

For me 8" fan seam overkill for a 400.Put a 4" or 6" and you will be ok imho.

I hope you don't live near neighbors, as people can catch a current

way overkill on the fan, you don't need a jet in there, unless you have serious bad heat issues. I would do a 6 inch with a speed controller to get the noise down, and for summer can turn up the cfm if need be. brands, ostberg or elicient

400's not bad, but remember it's kinda on the low end of lighting. 600 would be better, but 400 is ok, and if it were me, would be making the decision based off of heat in the room / tent, I would rather have a cooler lower watt setup then a high heat / high watt setup.. efficiency is key, as you might be able to get the 400 close with your temps...

cooltubes, don't like them, I believe the super sun 2 rated very high, but has been years since I ever looked at hoods since moving to LED, maybe check into hoods more before getting a cool tube, as a cool tube looks slick in airflow department, doesn't really matter when you have a good reflector, as light reflection / pattern is more important then a cool tubes airflow


anything else, let us know, always plan before you buy.. what's the saying, measure twice cut once

Actually, my light setup was a gift so I'm working with what I have lol. And in what order do I set this all up? Is it scrubber in tent/cool tube/fan in tent/exhaust duct/then outside? Or does the fan go outside the tent, and scrubber before exhausting outside? I'm sorry for all the noob questions, as this is only my first tent grow, I just want it to be right the first time. Thanks

i think your best setup will be:

scrubber > cooltube > inline fan > outside tent > outside

the fan will be inside the tent. the tent should have passive air intakes near the bottom (for cooler fresh air) & the exhaust should be close to the top of the tent to help get rid of the heat.

this setup allows the fan to pull air through the scrubber (instead of pushing, which is less efficient).

It's only $25 more for a 8", then just get a speedster for $25. that way you'll never have less than you need and can dial in exhaust cfm. My big blue O3 gen

pullin is in fact more efficient than pushing, but if you push then you don't have to worry about sucking stinky air through a line. even if a leak occurs somewhere in your line, you're pushing fresh air out.

Good advice^. That's is how I run em. My fans are connected directly to the scrubber (carbon filter) and foil taped up. My O3 gen is last in the line. So, scrubber>fan>cooltube(or any aircoooled hood)>duct>O3gen>duct>to wherever. That's if you got the really danky stuff going. BTW my carbon filter should have been changed out a yr ago but the O3 kills it. You need a good O3 gen and proper duct config for it to work tho..

Are all centrifugal fans compatible with the speed controllers????

^ yes

well, you should have a triac or variac ( so you know if you ever talk to someone ) , but the cheap speed controllers are just fine..

I think in ebay they are cheaper then most hydro stores, there usually under speed controller / control wizard / speedster

Not only is that a better setup but your fan will thank you! I had mine on the end and heat killed it within a year. Scrubber, fan, hood, out.

I got a "speedster" on two of my inline(centrifugal) fans. Third is full bore scrubber/AHU fan that doesn't exhaust out. Got em for about $25 bucks a pop at local shop. Just be sure whatever you get is a fan controller, not a light dimmer.
